PrintKevin Weekes, and not Martin Broduer, is getting the nod in goal for the slumping New Jersey Devils against the TB Bolts this evening, much to this Avs fan's delight.
...
And the decision is already paying dividends... for Avs fans. Weekes gives up a goal that would probably make either of the Avs netminders blush < 5 minutes into the game... 1-0 Lightning.
If the Lightning are able to win this game and then take the Isles to OT tomorrow I think the Avs will have the #2 spot locked down.

yeah, a little distance between us and them would be nice. would be even better if the isles decided to win every so often too.

Though I’ve sent snipers after the groins of both Mark Streit and Kyle Okposo, so that may be enough to seal 30th. I’m fully confident the Isles will not win the lottery, though.

is you’re guaranteed a shot at Tavares or Hedman. At 29th, there’s still a concern we slide down to 3rd.

At this point, the Avs will likely finish with the third worst record. Even if Colorado wins out, the only way they pass Atlanta is if they lose all of their remaining games. So unless the team with the 4th to 7th worst record wins the lottery, the Avs will finish with the third overall pick (say hello to Matt Duchene). So going into the lottery a week from Tuesday, if the Avs don’t win the lottery, you want the Isles, Lighting or a team with the 8th -14th worst record to win it. That way you are looking at Tavares or Duchene.

Tampa still needs someone to play on a line with Stamkos, so Duchene is naturally their pick.
