Joined Team: March 4, 2009 (acquired with Ryan Wilson and a 2nd round pick from Calgary for Jordan Leopold)
MHH Nicknames: Who?
Linemates: Tjarnqvist (2), Liles (2), Vernace (1)
ATOI: 10:32
Best Month: March (5GP, 0 points)
Career Highs: Nycholat's 19 games (including his time with Vancouver) and +/- rating of +1 both matched career highs.
Report: Nycholat was acquired in the Leopold deal. At the time, Nycholat was joining his 3rd team in 4 days, having just been obtained by the Flames on waivers from Vancouver. Really, he was just brought in to provide some depth and he did just that...for 5 games before going down with an arm injury.
In those 5 games, Nycholat seemed solid if unspectacular. His scouting report (click his jersey on the right) says he possesses some offensive acumen, but that's not a skill one is allowed to showcase in the Colorado Avalanche "system".
Fun Fact: Nycholat, a Calgary, Alberta native, has been with every NW division franchise except Edmonton.
The Lawrence Nycholat Drinking Game: Drink every time someone recognizes Lawrence Nycholat. Drunk potential: Very low.
2008 Salary (and Cap Number): $600k ($550k)
2009-2010 Status: Nycholat is an unrestricted free agent.
Outlook for 2009: Nycholat seems like a good enough guy to have around as a reserve defensemen. If he was to return, it would be as a depth guy who would shuttle between Denver and Cleveland. I think the Avs have other options here, though (Michael Vernace, for example) and I imagine Nycholat will not be back.
Next Up: John-Michael Liles

Honestly
I don’t have any opinion at all on this guy. He seemed like a decent enough kid and I hope he is able to catch on somewhere.

I didn’t have any complaints about him so far…I wouldn’t have a problem bringing him back and giving him a full season.
MHH: Like the Avs organization, we’ve now officially lost our minds.

Maybe
a reason to keep him around for a season, just so we can given the guy a “proper” nickname?

excellent point.
Hyphens cause writers more trouble than any other form of punctuation, except perhaps commas.

As long as everyone knows its a nickname, if not you get people giving you wierd looks cause you keep saying Who? after you’ve been told thousands of times, not that thats ever happened to me or anything.

Why are we back to first base again?
Who’s on first?

Change my vote
If he’s able to successfully infiltrate the Canucks and sabotage them, I think we should keep him on our payroll.

I say
Nycholat is a last-resort signing for the Avs, meaning they get him if they can’t get another guy higher up on the list.
I would like him to stay though, give him time to shine.
