The Islanders defeated the Lightning last night. A Tampa win would have gone a long way to sewing up the 29th spot, but now the Lightning remain just 2 points behind the Avs (and Colorado has 2 games in hand). The Islanders loss does keep the Avalanche in the "race" to dead last, but as I mentioned yesterday on the Hockey Night in Long Islandd radio blog show, I don't think the Avalanche will be able to make up that ground. (That episode is archived, so you still have a chance to listen to the dulcet tones of my voice).

The Lightning have 3 games remaining on their schedule: Pittsburgh, Washington and Atlanta. Atlanta is the only team not in the playoff hunt right now, but they are on a 6 game losing streak.

The Islanders have 4 games left: Carolina, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Boston - all 4 are playoff teams (as of today).

The Avs have 2 games left with Vancouver (including one tonight) along with stings against San Jose, Dallas and St Louis. Dallas is the only non-playoff team on the list (I believe they were eliminated last night when Nashville knocked of Columbus in a shootout.

Bad feeling?

in that Svatos will not finish the game as he win sustain another injury against a Dallas team?

or that the Avs will win that game and then finish 1pt ahead of the Isles in the Draft Lottery Race and we will spend all summer wondering what could have been?

MHH: Like the Avs organization, we’ve now officially lost our minds.

The later:)

As you could see last night, it`s not in Tampa Bays interest taking more points this season.

I happened to catch a little of their game against NJ – they were playing pretty hard. Much harder than the Avs

That`s true, they did. Last night, it looked like they realised the Devils win was not good for them:)

Looks like Jibbles has some competition in the most “reply fails” category. Welcome to MHH :)

An ounce of confidence can carry you a mile toward winning. Oh, and Red Wings suck.

I don’t see what Tony Granato has to do with anything here.

Lottery

Isn’t there still a chance to get the first pick, even if we finish 29th? What is the exact probability of those bottom 5 spots?

by winterdank00 on Apr 6, 2009 8:04 AM MDT reply actions

Yes

From NHLSCAP.com:

30th……….. 25.0% (250 combinations)
29th……….. 18.8% (188 combinations)
28th……….. 14.2% (142 combinations)
27th……….. 10.7% (107 combinations)
26th………….8.1% (81 combinations)
25th………….6.2% (62 combinations)
24th………….4.7% (47 combinations)
23rd………….3.6% (36 combinations)
22nd………… 2.7% (27 combinations)
21st………….2.1% (21 combinations)
20th………….1.5% (15 combinations)
19th………….1.1% (11 combinations)
18th………….0.8% (8 combinations)
17th………….0.5% (5 combinations)

anyone higher (lower?) than 26th can only move up 5 spots, therefore can’t get the #1 pick.. i.e. if the 21st team wins the lottery they move up and ahead of team# 25
