Beach Boys, "409"
For those of you who had April 9th on the When Will DDC Stop Putting Any Effort Into The Previews Pool, congratulations!
Peter Budaj is up against some dude named Matt Climie. Let's see...the Avs have been shut out by Al Montoya in his first career start. They've been shut out by Dan LeCosta making his second career start. Any chance Climie is making his 3rd career start? Yes, yes there is.
For those at the game, don't forget to show Guite and Lappy the MHH love!

Oh, I definitely smell a shutout for this Climie character. It’s our specialty! Guite will be getting enough love from me, let’s hope the other 10,000 in the Can tonight will do the same.
Ben Guite, MVP.

November 14th
For those of you who had April 9th on the When Will DDC Stop Putting Any Effort Into The Previews Pool, congratulations!
I had November 14th… but that was for Joe so I still won.

Tampa tied with Caps 1-1 with 5 min to go in first period. It is Tampa’s fan appreciation night and hopefully they will show they appreciate their fans by winning tonight and avoiding a sweep by the Caps this year.
no worries – the Avs cannot catch the Islanders

It's true.
It actually JUST hit me that I was rooting for the wrong team. That being said, I’ve adopted the Isles as my other team to watch this year, so it’s sort of habit to root for them. I’m on the Tampa Bay game, now. Stamkos is talking. I can’t believe I’m older than he is. siiiiigh
Was that a callback to a game thread? I think it was!!

Oooohhhh....
I read the preview for that on NHL.com and the section where they have each team’s draft picks listed was pretty funny. Biiiig list for BU, itty bitty list for Vermont.
The bigger schools tend to have more draft picks. I think Bemidji only has one draftee.

and I really didn’t expect anything different. It was just funny to see the graphic because the box was so goofy looking.
So, Jori...
Is Shattenkirk coming out after this season or does he return for one more? Have a guess?
I think he stays one more year. The Avs already have five defenders signed for next season and if by some miracle they land Hedman, that will be six. I think he’s better off with one more season to refine his game.

Hahahaha
The Tampa Bay announcers are doing their end of the season awards for the Lightning and apparently they were so bad, they are awarding the equipment managers and defensive coaches the awards. What in the world.
That would be pretty high on the list of stuff you’d never see the Altiboobs do.
2008-2009 Colorado Avalanche: Dry Humping Mediocrity
it’s right up there with the Altiboobs saying something useful during the intermission…

OT: Rockies fans
All you Rox fans will be sad to know that I think I’ve finally picked a baseball team to like… and it’s the SF Giants.
You didn’t sell out and pick the Yanks or Red Sox
Colorado Avalanche Prospects (www.avsprospects.blogspot.com)
by Angélique C. Murray on Apr 9, 2009 6:46 PM MDT up reply actions
God no
I’d rather not follow a team if that was the case. That’s like picking the Wings with only slightly more intelligent fans.
by Jibblescribbits on Apr 9, 2009 6:48 PM MDT up reply actions
Honestly I wanted to like the Rox for years
But the Montforts lost me. Their whining about being “small market” after having Denver taxpayers build them one of the nicest stadiums in the Bigs, combined with the fact that the Avs, Nuggets and Broncos can make it in this market, but it’s too small for the Rox. That was too much for me.
by Jibblescribbits on Apr 9, 2009 6:50 PM MDT up reply actions
I’m a Rox fan, but I have a personal boycott going on six years because of those reasons. I root for the team, but I wont spend money on them until the Monforts do!
Colorado Avalanche Prospects (www.avsprospects.blogspot.com)
by Angélique C. Murray on Apr 9, 2009 6:52 PM MDT up reply actions
Yeah
I’ve always kinda liked the Giants, probably because of an unnatural hatred of the Dodgers, but being in the Bay area and going to a few games at PacBell AT&T have made the switch pretty easy.
Also I always seem to catch the Giants when I go to a game in a different city. I saw them at Wrigley when I was in Chicago for 4 days a few years back.
by Jibblescribbits on Apr 9, 2009 6:56 PM MDT up reply actions
THe Monforts are shitheads
but to be fair, the Rockies are one of the few teams this season to have increased their payroll from last season. The Matt Holliday trade was bad PR, but a good baseball move.
But what happens in a few years when they are “forced” to trade Tulo or Iannetta? It’s the same story with that bunch.
Colorado Avalanche Prospects (www.avsprospects.blogspot.com)
by Angélique C. Murray on Apr 9, 2009 6:57 PM MDT up reply actions 1 recs
They already locked up Tulo
to a long-term contract that buys out part of his free agency years. They did the same thing with Jimenez and they’ve already locked up Hawpe up, as well. If Iannetta performs to expectations this year, I think they’ll sign him to a 3-5 year deal, as well. The team has learned how to compete without paying $120 million for one player.
I’m talking when they get in Holliday’s shoes, will they step up or start bagging the guy in the media like they did with Matt and trade him?
Colorado Avalanche Prospects (www.avsprospects.blogspot.com)
by Angélique C. Murray on Apr 9, 2009 7:01 PM MDT up reply actions
Well...
I was okay with Holliday. He tried to talk it up like he would give the Rockies a legit shot to sign him, but when the Rockies offered him a big-money, long-term contract he scoffed at it and made it clear he wouldn’t re-sign in Colorado. I think the Rockies did what they had to do and got solid value for him.
That remains to be seen if they got fair value. We can blame the Boras factor with Holliday, but eventually..the organization is going to have to step up and hold on to their talent long term (and I’m talking beyond their arbitration years).
Colorado Avalanche Prospects (www.avsprospects.blogspot.com)
by Angélique C. Murray on Apr 9, 2009 7:07 PM MDT up reply actions
I agree with you.
They have to commit to a guy who really deserves it. I think the Helton contract has scared them off more than the Hampton one because they see how grossly overpaid he is now. It does remain to be seen if the package was fair value, but looking at it at the time it was made, it’s a good package.
One All-Star LF for a servicable 5th starter, a very talented closer, and one of the best OF prospects in the game. You really won’t find much more than that because the days of teams just throwing their prospects around are over.
And
Giants have a pretty good rotation, with Lincecum, Johnson and Cain. Zito sucks, but he’s a good (albeit vastly overpaid) 4th starter.
Their lineup could be… uuuhhhh…. interesting.
by Jibblescribbits on Apr 9, 2009 7:02 PM MDT up reply actions
Sanchez
is a good starter, as well. The rotation is unquestionably talented, but this year the offense might finally catch up just enough to win them some games and make them a threat. They aren’t bad at all this season.
True
But so far they have been pretty good. 3 games and all, but still.
I think they need to trade for a bat later down the line, but they could score enough to be decent. They could win the NL West.

Other = Salei
I like Salei, but he is slightly overpaid. ATL needs a solid defender, and the salary wouldn’t be an issue since they will probably have to get the salary to make the salary floor.
by Jibblescribbits on Apr 9, 2009 8:41 PM MDT up reply actions
That would be acceptable
But I’d be willing to throw in another 2nd or 3rd if they would take Hannan instead of Salei.
He's good,
but is he worth that kind of money? If ATL needs salary, I’d rather keep Salei and his far superior offensive capacity (and roughly equivalent defensive skill IMHO).
Watching the sharks game left me with the impression the only defense he can do is screen our goalie. He sat in front of Budaj by himself more than the Sharks did.
The Savage has spoken. Let it be done
"Two roads divurged in a wood, and I took the one less travelled by, and that has made all the difference"
R. Frost
yeah
I think Cloutiers system has him confused. He was always aggresive at taking the man, not sit back and passively block shots. He doesn’t seem comfortable in that role.
by Jibblescribbits on Apr 9, 2009 9:18 PM MDT up reply actions
To Point Out
Salei was a beast in the playoffs last year. He even made the BOC defense men list as one of the favorites. IMO, Salei has been “dumbed” down by our defensive coaching meaning, “Don’t kill Wolski, mmmmkkk?”. Salei is good just not with this “system”.
An ounce of confidence can carry you a mile toward winning. Oh, and Red Wings suck.
