Past Avalanche Drafts (Round 2)
And here we go with Round 2. As AD pointed out today, the Avalanche have a lot of flame outs here with just Paul Stastny and Peter Budaj having reached the 100-game barrier (although it's still a little early to judge a lot of the recent selections). The Avs have had at least 2 second round picks in each draft going back to 2005 and they indeed go into this year's draft with two picks (33 and 49).

When I looked at the Avs draft history last year, I found that Avalanche 2nd rounders had the least number of NHL games of any of the first 7 rounds. I'm going to tally those numbers again later this week, but it appears that the 601 NHL games from Colorado's 2nd rounders, this is still traditionally the weakest round for the team. Oddly, with all the busts there doesn't appear to be a lot of missed talent where the Avalanche picked, although Yuri Babenko taken just 4 picks ahead of Zdeno Chara certainly stings.

it would be interesting to see how many games Steve Moore would have if he add not been forced out of the game…
Still that might only be a third player with 100 games which would improve the average all that much.
MHH: Like the Avs organization, we’ve now officially lost our minds.

Yeah, it certainly seemed Steve Moore was developing into a nice energy center, a guy who could play pivot on a third or fourth line and drive the opposition crazy with energy and hits while throwing in an occasional goal. I think he would have carved out a nice little niche in the NHL. But you’re certainly right, that would only be one more 100-gamer. Dater is absolutely right: this year is crucial. This has to be a boffo draft if we expect to fast-track the rebuilding movement.

Agree completely about Moore
I thought he was becoming a pretty decent 3rd line center when Berdouchie ended his career. Decent hitter, decent speed, average size and wasn’t afraid to mix it up in front of the net.
MHH: Shagging Dater one contributor at a time.

our fortunes appear to have changed a bit in 2005
since then we have only 3 real long shot NHL players, Fritsche, Burki, and Durand. Stastny of course is awesome, and Stoa and Galiardi are sure bets imo. Williams, Cohen and Gaunce all look like pretty decent bets for the NHL in the next couple years too, and Cann and Delmas are still unknowns.
I like Burki personally
But yeah, he’s a long-shot for the NHL. Especially with the talent pool around him.
Durand and Fritshce I had to research for any info on them.
The others you listed I agree with completely. I’m stoked to see more of Stoa this coming year.
I’d also say Cann has a decent-ish chance to make the back-up position a couple years down the road. Not sure about Delmas at all.
