The Avs May F@#k Up The Draft After All
Why does this scenario, with some confirmation talk from Avs officials, surprise anyone?

Yes of course
We don’t want Duchene, Dedman or Tavares, maybe Vaclav Nederost will be available at number 3?!?!
I agree with Pracey's statement
You could be talking about 5 players at the top. I think it’s more the media that has decided to cut it off at three. However, many scouts think that Kane is much closer to Duchene than the media lets on. I hope we pick somewhere in the top 10. There are no guarantees that the top 3 will be superstars. Have a little faith that the scouts, who have spent years researching the guys that we just started talking about, have done their homework. Even after the draft is over, it’s too soon to call. We won’t know who really won this draft for a few years.
I'm also reading into Pracey's statement a little
I think that he’s saying, if we end up with Hedman as our option at 3, we will trade down to get a good forward prospect. I think that’s what we need.
I think that would be dumb. You don’t pass up on a bluechip prospect for a CHANCE to get a guy 4-6 picks later. You draft him and try to work a trade after the day is over.

I know. Doesn’t make it any less dumb. You think AvsNation will respond well to the Avs leaving Chara 2.0 on the table to take a forward that WASN’T one of the top three in the draft? I think they’d be better served taking Hedman and trying to deal him or one of our other defensive prospects for a highly picked forward in this draft (or possibly in a future draft) or a top-flight prospect already in somebody’s system. It’s more of a PR angle than anything, IMO.
