Super Joe
For awhile I thought it might be best if Super Joe retired so we could get save some cash on the books. And to be honest if he does i wish him the best as any Avs fan would. But now I am thinking different. I want to see Matt Duchene on the ice next year. Badly. And to have Super Joe out there to help out our new rookie I think would be golden for our franchise. Its killed me the last few years to see the Red Wings get to the Cup and for us this year to sit at the bottom of the Western Conference well its tough. But I know that we can rebound. I could even tolerate us being near the bottom once more to secure another solid player in next years draft and maybe turn out like the Penguins did. But we still need a goaltender. Badly! We must find one that can dominate games. But as far as Super Joe goes how does everyone feel? Retire? Or if he comes back which I would surely welcome if Duchene gets some ice time...

Unless Duchene looks NHL ready right off the bat,
they should really leave him in juniors one more year. There’s no point in rushing him when we all know the Avs will be crap again next year. Let him mature a bit more and hone his game some.
Plus, if the team’s allready going to be crap, they might as well be really bad and have a better chance at another high pick. Think Pittsburgh of a few years back.

I agree
but he can play 9 games, plus the pre-season. What would it be like for him to play with Joe those first few games.
I think he needs to play a few games, just like Wolski did a few season ago. He said he doesn’t really know if he’s ready to play at the NHL level and playing those first 9 games would really give him an idea of what the game is like and where he needs to focus over the next season and summer.

Absolutely.
Those first 9 games are like a free preview. Might as well take advantage of it and see what happens.

I’d love it if Joe and Matt could play together for one year, I have the feeling Duchene is like a sponge-did any of you catch his little tv interview where he knew what type of sticks the avs player had and which ones were custom? He loves to play hockey which is more than Arnason can say.

I think Joe will be back
Just that he worked so hard to try to play a couple games at the end of a crappy season.
The $$$ could be the problem. But it seems as though the Avs have always done anything for Joe, so I suppose they may find a way to work it out.
Hate to say it
But the $$$ will be a problem for me if Joe does come back for anything more than $2M. He hasn’t come even close to earning his contract the last two years, and the team is not in any sort of position where it can afford another salary cap anchor. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to see Super Joe go out the right way (not on IR, helping lead the team back to respectability, helping out the young guns, etc.), but the Avs absolutely cannot afford to way overpay for him again.

They may be trying to overpay
Or they may really be shedding salary, but it seems to me like they are getting rid of money anyway they can. I.E. Lappy, McCormick. Everyone’s been saying “use that money to sign Lappy”, but maybe they are using it to sign Joe.
Get rid of the loser point
08-09 Avs- can we decline the penalty?

Super Joe leaning to coming back....
According to Spectorshockey.net, Joe told the Avs he plans on returning for another season, but the question I have with that is why the wait time on announcing it…. thoughts?
Those tricky, tricky, tricky bastiches!
