Jonas Gustavsson Is Emulating Patrick Roy In More Ways Than One
"Jonas Gustavsson, the free-agent goalie from Sweden is going to wait until after July 1 to announce his decision."

Is it emulating Patrick Roy? Or Joe Sakic…the king of “we’ll wait”

Sakic has at least told the team what’s going on

This year yes…last year, not so much!

I sincerely hope the Avalanche do not wait on this cherry-picking mother fucker. I find this latest bit of new to be absolutely ridiculous

you know, his mom died and all like 2 weeks ago. im inclined to give him a touch of grace.

you think that’s the reason?
Gustavsson’s agent Joe Resnick told Hockeycentral “It’s highly unlikely we’ll commit before 12 noon Wednesday. With so many teams potentially making major changes to their rosters, maybe it’s best to wait and watch it unfold first.”
because it sure sounds like they aren’t bothering to even try to spin it that way

yeah, he’s probably playing some angle (or maybe he’s letting his agent run things while he grieves), but we don’t know for sure. I don’t want to start hating him until after he turns us down for sure. :)
I don’t understand how this could benefit him though. if anything, it will reduce his options and lower his value to the teams that remain interested. is it some kind of bizarre loyalty test? i really don’t understand the reasoning. maybe he’s simply not able to make his mind?

I really think they are looking to place him in the best possible scenario…but I totally agree that this is the wrong move for him. I too think this is going to reduce his options

I really don’t know about that: For the teams that want him, he’s still going to be cheaper, younger, and have a higher potential than most any of the other available options. And there are already more goaltenders available than there are teams in need of goaltending. I think that if he doesn’t sign before free agency, we’re going to see a group of goaltenders waiting for contracts.
But, I do agree that he’s probably looking for his best possible scenario

I think you're right
He’s trying to pull a “Hossa”. He should give the guy a call and ask him how well that worked out for him. I want a goalie that believes he can make the difference (like Roy and his attitude), not, as you so eloquently put it, some “cherry picking motherfucker”.
Get rid of the loser point
08-09 Avs- can we decline the penalty?

Well, if he does end up here
I think we already have a MHH nickname for him. Maybe we could just use CPMF for short?

Nice. Let’s use it wherever he ends up.

I am trying to fit it into the lyrics from Local H’s “High Fiving Mother Fuc#er”
One too many syllables though…or else it can be a theme song

Trade for / make offer sheets to at least the following list:
Harding
Pavelec
Lehtonen
If we swing and miss on all 3, then look at those keepers available in UFA tomorrow. If that includes this wanker, then OK (maybe – color me VERY unimpressed by this Swedish Sundin horseshit), but DO NOT SIT AROUND WAITING FOR A KEEPER TO FALL INTO OUR LAPS!!!

Well, the Avs could always try to trade for Theodore:P

Nah...
I would take his backup – young Simeon would do just fine, thank you!

Maybe swedes are just slow thinkers. That Lutefisk clogs your brain, you know?

Well
That settles it, the Avs can’t afford to wait on him. Go out and sign Anderson or Harding (who both have just as good of stats, albeit limited, and they are actually NHL stats)

Here’s a little bit more of a diplomatic quote from his agent:
Gustavsson won’t choose NHL team until after July 1
Bob McKenzie
6/30/2009 12:55:03 PM
The North American agent for Swedish free-agent netminder Jonas (Monster) Gustavsson says his client will not make a decision on which team he’ll sign with until sometime after July 1. A decision was originally expected by today.
“It’s been a hectic and busy time for Jonas,” Joe Resnick told TSN. “With his mother passing away recently, he really just needs some time to take stock of things. There’s no point in rushing into a decision. All we know at this point is his decision will come after July 1.”
Four teams – Toronto, San Jose, Colorado and Dallas – are in the running for the big late-blooming free agent goalie.

So we add to his nick
Hectic and busy CPMF. It’s getting sort of long.

I guess I'm not into the whole "brevity thing"...
i am of the firm opinion that nicknames don’t actually have to be short. my friends and i reference an acquaintance with the nickname “pinko commie leftist’s loudmouth girlfriend” in general conversation on a constant basis.
but i suppose that spoken nicknames are different than written ones, and some sacrifices should be made.

Wait, I don’t understand
Your friend is a pinko commie leftist with a loudmouth gf, or the gf is all of the above.
