Meet The New Avalanche Brass
I'm at work, so I haven't been able to listen to any of these yet, but I'll assume they're still worth sharing:
Avalanche press conference introducing Joe Sacco and Sylvain Lefebvre
...and some various radio interviews on The Fan (104.3 FM)
and Tony Granato on Wednesday
[Update]
And apparently this is Adrian Dater interviewed by the CBC on the Granato / Sherman moves on Wednesday (before Sacco's "surprise" hiring). I can't see it at all from work, so I'm taking wtnelson's word that it is that and not goat porn. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

and I guess I’m going to need to learn how to type “Lefebvre”

Naw, Just call him Lefever and after a while everyone will think that’s how it’s spelled. It worked for me with Lechysyshyn (I suggest adding as many Y’s as you can to make it look legit).

I’m not even sure Curtis knows how to spell his last name so no one can call you on it.

should we do a “guess the avs slogan for 2010-11 contest”. My guess would be something with extreme in the title.

The Sherman interview
on the fan last night was about 5:00 right as I got off of work… And the whole interview pissed me off because one of the first things he said was Wolski with a WA instead of a VA… I mean, come on… really??
When asked if he had any responsibility he could place on himself for the Avs slide post-lockout, he said the Avs weren’t on a slide, and completely dodged putting any responsibility on himself.
According to him there was no rush into why they hired from within and everyone they hired was hands down the best man for the job.
He’s not “THE hockey guy” but they all work together to make decisions in the best interests of the organization. It seems to me that a GM should be the one to say, “I know what’s best for the team, I make the calls. Your input is more than welcome and will be considered, however I will make the ultimate decision.” But that’s just me, and that’s why I’m not running any sort of anything.
My favorite was when he was asked about how Detroit has done so well post-lockout and he replied that it really was just the “PERFECT STORM” for them and made it sound like they just got lucky. I hate the Red Wings as much as the next guy, but the fact is they have a great organization, they do well with scouting and integrating and building their players, and they’ve learned how to manage their salary cap. The Avs I don’t feel have really gotten a good grasp on post-lockout hockey, and I honestly think that’s contributed to our downfall.
The only good thing the Sherm said in his interview is that we’re still looking and hoping to acquire Johan Gustafsson and that the organization (not him personally), were still talking with his agents and trying to make a deal.
The guy is a sack of crap, and I don’t like him already.

that is simply stunning

Isn’t though!? Like I said, I LOATHE the Red Wings… But to not even give them any credit for the organization that they’ve built… Ugh.
Their organization
Isn’t that great. It’s good, but like their on ice product…pretty lucky, too.
Everyone talks about how amazing their drafting is. Their ability to get good players in the late rounds. Anyone know the names of the guys drafted in rounds before Zetterberg or Datsyuk?? If their drafting was so great, why do their early round selections make no impact?
All that aside…they’re organization is still better than the joke the Avs organization has become. Still, can’t pass on a chance to rip on “hockeytown”.
I don't believe in Peter Budaj.
Washingtonolski and Virginiaolski are both considered acceptable pronunciations of his name. Give the guy a break!

I agree that Detriot has a great organization but there was some luck involved as well. Serveral top guys are 5th round draft picks. If they were so high on them, they would have picked them up earlier. However, they weren’t that high on them but they were willing to take a chance (which means there is some luck involved) on then late rounds. Colorado was lucky like this a while back with Drury and Hejduk. Detroit was also lucky that Babcock turned out to be such a great head coach. You can pick guys out that you think are going to be great but you’ll really never know until you give them the position. All three of the top overall draft picks this year could turn out to be duds.
I agree
there was some luck there, but there’s been a lot of skill too.
by Jibblescribbits on Jun 5, 2009 11:15 AM MDT up reply actions
yeah, they drafted those guys in the late rounds because they could. you don’t waste a 2nd round pick on a guy if no one else is going to take him. and no one else was likely to take him because no one else has the scouting department that the Red Wings do.

by David Driscoll-Carignan on Jun 5, 2009 11:18 AM MDT up reply actions
Agree
It’s tough to tell how much of that was good scouting and how much was luck. If you know you have a Pavel Datsyuk or Henrik Zetterberg on your hands, you don’t wait until the 6th or 7th round to draft them.
Not that I’m arguing the point. The Red Wings, for years now, have the best scouting department and are great at finding locations the rest of the league doesn’t pay enough attention to (like Sweden, and Russia in the 90s) and exploiting it to their advantage.
But at some level Datsyuk and Zetterberg were a bit lucky.
by Jibblescribbits on Jun 5, 2009 11:34 AM MDT up reply actions
But then you have the opposite situation in Pittsburg taking as many top picks as they can and ending up in the exact same position as Detroit. Oh the irony..

Except Babcock
was a great and proven NHL coach, with Anaheim. At least the Wings are willing to go outside of their org for proven guys. The Avs unwillingness to do so is mind boggling.

Glad you liked it.
Maltby and Holmstrom can piss me off like no others. And don’t you hate how after almost every goal scored against Osgood, he acts as if it was the luckiest most horrible soft goal that had ever been scored in the history of hockey?

Versus announcers were annoying me last night
Sounding like they were trying to annoint Osgood as the second coming even after he was down 4-2. I hate Osgood as well. Draper (who is really a dirty little player), Maltby, Homer, Kronwall (who leaves his feet on most of his big hits and rarely gets called for it), Samuelson (intentionally whacked Lappy in the face with his stick last season, the PoS) …. so many Wings still worthy of hating.

08-09 Avs- can we decline the penalty?
Is it just me
or did anyone else notice the resemblance of Sacco to a younger Christopher Walken?

Actually, David, there would be an awful lot wrong with Adrian Dater goat porn. Color me prejudiced, I guess, but I happen to believe that Dater would agree with me.

Just some observations
Sherman looks like he’s stoned, Biller needs a jacket that fits him (or, maybe he’s just a hunchback), Sacco actually looks like a hockey coach, something that Granato can’t claim, and Sly looks like Rick Tochett.
As an aside, nobody knows how to run a press conference quite like Jean Martineau. That guy is tremendous at what he does. I hate watching and listening to press conferences when you can’t hear the questions. Also, in every Avs press conference, you never hear a bunch of reporters trying to talk at the same time and having the loudest one get the floor.

About the content of the video...
I think that a lot of what Sacco was saying was tongue-in-cheek about the morale/motivation problem we’ve been having
I don’t think he could get away with saying TG was lousy because we could mop up against Detroit with Arnason at #1 center and loose to the various Florida/New York teams
I just want Drury back... I recognize the Drury->Morris->Statsny chain, and I stick with the statement.
