Ha, I still get teary eyed when I watch “Mission Accomplished” when the Gary Thorne “and after 22 years RAYMOND BOURQUE!”
ditto when I hear The Calling’s Wherever You Will Go (which ESPN played constantly during the Series)

I remember a few things from that day..
1- At my friends house watching the game on his gigantic 27" because I only had a 21".
2- Jumping off the couch and slamming my feet on the hardwood floor after Sykoras(?) PPG causing 4 of my friends wife’s china plates to come crashing off the wall. (Why do girls feel the need to hand plates on walls?)
3- The neighbors kid decided to egg my friends car mid way through the 3rd period. We had just muted the TV for commercials when the assault began… hearing some shrapnel hit the kitchen window we investigated. No TiVo! Only missed about 15 minutes, what seemed like an eternity. Dealt with that little Fucker later.
4- Yes I cried. Like a grown man, though.

HAHA
Well… If alone I would have been a mess, but there was a chick that I liked there. So some man rules were in effect.

Greatest day ever
I was so pissed at my mom. She thought for some reason that we needed to go to church and miss the first ten minutes or so of the game, even though we were hosting the viewing party that night. I missed Tanguay’s first goal. If I ever considered killing someone, it was probably then, even though I was only 12.
It still brings a tear to my eye every time I watch the YouTube video of the highlights. Gary Thorne is my favorite TV hockey announcer of all-time, and he couldn’t have possibly captured that moment better.

Parents gave me a choice:
Sister’s dance recital
vs
Game 7 at my Aunt’s house
I chose Game 7.
I think I was eating their carpet or something. They had 9-1 dialed on the phone before I told my Uncle that the Avs had just won.
Can’t listen to Wherever You Will Go without thinking about that Sakic shot over Brodeur’s glove.
Will someone help me out with this argument...
Net net: I’ve started a debate about which team of the 2000 decade is the best so far including the current Redwings. My argument is that the 2001 AVs lineup was deeper than the current Redwings lineup. Does anyone else agree with me? If so, can you please comment on this post:

I was fricken there
Still the most amazing sporting event I’ve ever been to. And it will be damn hard to top. With Dan, in days when he had better things to do than defend Granato and Tucker. Those were the days my friend. And boy did they end.

jealous...
i was working lights and sound for a friend’s senior show [i was just graduating], and i just left to watch the game. i went to the bar next door and left them to fend for themselves. priorities, man. i showed up in time to turn up the house lights tho.
Sippin' PBR on a Colorado game day...
I was at the bar
Underage too
It was very loud and rowdy when the Avs won but it got eerily quiet right before the cup ceremony. The bar also offered free drinks for the next 30 minutes but due to the mass of drink requests, the offer ended up only lasting about 10 minutes.
Also, there was one lone Devils fan there who was very masochistic since he decided to stick around after the game and take all the abuse Avs fans where giving him including the entire bar singing “na na na na, hey hey hey goodbye” and pointing directly at him. It was surreal.
I never felt old until I read about all you kids watching with your parents or going to high school graduations.

Funny
I thought kinda the same thing. Only I WAS watching with my parents. But they were at my house. And thank god the ceiling fan was on low or I’d have two fewer fingers…. (I just like thinking I’m young anymore, ha)

08-09 Avs- can we decline the penalty?
I too was watching with my parents, but It was June and I was waiting for the landlord at my new place in college to finish fixing up his house so I was staying with my folks for a few weeks.

College
You young uns. I was finishing college for the FIRST cup. :) Now I’m sure someone older will come along and blow me out of the water, but hey, it’s been good to revisit all those memories of good avs teams.

What is this Google of which you speak?
Is it similar to that strange new electric light that Edison fellow is touting?
More like his recording device combined with a library card catalog.

Gawd
Red, no worries. Bubblegum constantly schools me on internet speak and well, it just makes me feel old.
An ounce of confidence can carry you a mile toward winning. Oh, and Red Wings suck.
Old Fart?
I was 26, had just graduated (fifth year of college), had been married a whole 7 months, and was at the in-laws house. Actually I was driving back to the in-laws house and listened to the first period on the radio, before watching the rest of the game on TV.
