Lines?
Ok, assuming they don't do much
different line combos for different scenarios:
Sakic comes back, Matt makes the team:
Smyth/Stastny/Hedjuk
Duchense/Sakic/Svatos
Stewart/Wolski/Jones
Koci/Galiardi/Mcleod
scratch--hopefully minors--tucker/hensick (otherwise switch koci and the duche(tucker, not the good one))
Hannan/Liles
Foote/Salei
Clark/filler
anderson/budaj
sakic doesn't comeback/Duchense makes team
Smyth/stastny/hedjuk
mcleod/duchense/svatos
Stewart/wolski/jones
koci/Galiardi/Mcleod
Hannan/Liles
Foote/Salei
Clark/filler
anderson/budaj
Worst case scenario no sakic/no duchense
Smyth/stastny/hedjuk
Mcleod(or fa)/wolski/svatos
Stewart/galiardi/jones
koci/hensick/Mcleod (or a body)
Hannan/Liles
Foote/Salei
Clark/filler
anderson/budaj
anyway you splice it on paper this team is better than last year (how can't it be with the black hole gone). I could actually see svatos having a rebound year if healthy. I wonder what different coaching and different starting goal tending (fingers crossed) will have.

Smyth and Hannen will be traded for prospects or picks, hopefully
Why must we toss Smyth to the side. I spent a whole season trying to understand the utter hatred and negativity towards Hannan on this site. Yet now that has metastasized over to Smyth solely because of his contract? His play may not warrant his precise salary, though it does warrant a good one, but trading for picks and prospects that yield a return of the unknown. Until we have proven that we can draft like Detroit, every year, why toss one of our best players.
I just don’t see anyone picking them up this year with the cap positioned how it is.

I don't hate Hannan
He is overpaid but that is about it. Other than that, I think he is a fine d-man.
I think most peoples problem is he is being paid like a 1-2 d-man when he is better suited as a 3-4 d-man. He also isn’t paired very well sometimes although I like him with Liles and he was okay with Foote certain games.
I agree, but unless we trade him to montreal, no one is going to give the avs anything for him.

Vernace will not be back. He wasn’t qualified. :( Too bad I liked him.

too many guys in the pipeline i guess.

I agree, the avs have a bunch of d-men prospects why not flip him for the equivalent in a forward heavy franchise.

Right now
My biggest difficulty in making the lineup is: Who plays LW. I think the Avs have 3 LW’s: Smyth, Tucker, McLeod. Of course Stoa could play there. And so could Galiardi, but I don’t see anyone outside of Smyth being good enough for that 2nd line LW role at the moment. (I’m hesitant to give Stoa or Galiardi a 2nd line role starting out., and Smytty is obviously a 1st liner.) Wolski could work there, but I’d rather keep him in center, maybe, I guess.
The other problem is that the Avs have an abundance of RWs. Duke, Jones, Stewart, Svatos. None of those guys work all that well on the left side. I’m going to tenatively go with Jones on the LW, even though I don’t think it’s his best position. I think he has the skill and play style to grow into it. I don’t think any of those 4 guys are a good fit for the 4th line, as they all deserve more playing time than that.
With that dilemma (that’s a bigger problem than it should be, in my mind) here’s my penciled in lines:
Smytty-SoS-Duke
McLeod – Wolski – Stewart
Stoa – Duchene – Jones
Tucker – Galiardi – Svatos
Koci
Hensick
(By the end of the season I hope Stoa and Duchene play good enough that the second and third lines essentially flip.)
Here’s two I think the coaching staff will set the lines:
Smyth -SoS – Duke
Tucker – Wolski – Svatos
McLeod – Hensick – Jones
Stoa – Duchene – Stewart
Koci
Willsie
The one thing that bothers me about these lines is that there’s no room for Galiardi. I’d like to get him NHL minutes.)
One T.J. for another...
I think that Hensick is still going to have to compete for a roster spot with guys like Galiardi and Stoa.

yeah I do too, that’s why I put him in the coaches lines.
But he certainly hasn’t earned that with his play.

Tucker
Healthy scratch for the entire 2009-2010 season, FTW!
That’s my only contribution to the lines :-)
Colorado Avalanche: Please excuse the mess while we are under construction.

I’m not sure I like the “Shermanator” nickname for Anderson. I think it’s more applicable to the GM…
Of course he’s also Shrute, and he could also be the most famous Sherman ever…

Like Conqy mentioned, it’s a holdover nickname from a goalie message board we both frequent. I like it, and since I control ALL NICKNAMES IN ZE VORLD!!!, it shall remain.

How do you get the R and C symbols anyway? Can you get TM?
2008-2009 Colorado Avalanche: Dry Humping Mediocrity
Ctrl+Alt+R = ®
Ctrl+Alt+C = ©
I think you have to be in “English-International” mode on your “Regional & Languages” settings (under Control Panel)
I can’t find (and can’t remember) what TM is.
CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+S = §
And there’s a whole bunch of others.
¢, ø,þ, Þ, ²,¤, €, etc…
by Jibblescribbits on Jul 2, 2009 12:10 PM MDT up reply actions
Don’t have an “English-International” mode. I’ll have to play around a little bit and see what’s up.
2008-2009 Colorado Avalanche: Dry Humping Mediocrity
You should it’s standard in pretty much all Windows.
Control Panel → Regional and Language options → Languages tab → Details button → Add button → scroll to “United States international”.
Also under Preferences go to “Language Bar” button and make sure you try and put the bar on your desktop so you can switch back and forth.
International mode has some quirks it takes a little while to get used to. You have to hit (space) after ‘, ", ~, but before the letter, unless that letter doesn’t ever get an accent.
for example in international mode:
’ (only) =
’ (then) SPACE = ’
’ (then) d = ’d
’ (then) e = é

Also
There’s some really neat keypad tricks.
ALT+ numbers on the keypad give you a whole boatload of cool characters
ALT + 7 = •
ALT + 167 = º
ALT + 241 = ± (good for when talking about the useless stat)
ALT + 242/243 = ≥ / ≤
ALT+ 230 = µ
ALT + 3/4/5/6 = ♥/ ♦/ ♣/ ♠
ALT + 13/14 = ♪/ ♫

Shermanator…as in the geeky comis relief guy that was always trying to score (well, I guess that description doesn’t really narrow it down) in American Pie:

This thread is full of unpatriotic, cut-and-runners who want the terrorists to win. If you don’t post your lines now, how will Schrute know what to do next season?
2008-2009 Colorado Avalanche: Dry Humping Mediocrity
Without either Sakic or Duchene:
Smyth – Stastny – Hejduk
Tucker – Wolski – Svatos
Stewart – Galiardi – Jones
McLeod – Stoa – Willsie
reserves: Hensick, Koci
Hannan – Liles
Clark – Foote
Salei – Cumiskey
reserve: Macias
With either Sakic or Duchene:
Smyth – Stastny – Hejduk
Tucker – Sakic/Duchene – Svatos
Galiardi/Stoa – Wolski – Jones
McLeod – Galiardi/Stoa – Stewart

With both Sakic and Duchene:
Smyth – Stastny – Hejduk
Wolski – Sakic – Svatos
Tucker – Duchene – Jones
McLeod – Galiardi/Stoa – Stewart
reserve: Galiardi/Stoa, Koci
I’d really like to see any one of Galiardi, Stoa or Stewart score on a consistent level enough to be put on the second line LW level. Or even Tucker. Someone else said it: Last year was his career low in points. He’s put up decent numbers since the lockout other than that.
by c0nquistad0rian on Jul 2, 2009 10:50 AM MDT up reply actions
I think I’d rather have Jones out of position on the left rather than Tucker up in a top 6 role, but maybe that’s just me.
2008-2009 Colorado Avalanche: Dry Humping Mediocrity
I’d be cool with that. I just want someone to step on on the second line.

Fine, only because I don't want the terrorists to win.
But I’d rather wait till after Camp.
/w Sakic only
Smytty – SoS – Duke

Salei – Clark
reserve – Macy’s
(My gf pronounced his name like the store, and since I laughed my ass off at that, I’m sticking with it for his nickname)
I’ll quote what I said previous off-season, that tucker will do good if he’s lined with Sakic.
He had his best years lined with Sundin, and Captain Clutch is big upgrade for that.

2008-2009 Avalanche: It's like watching a car crash.
After the Smyth trade
I think the only lines this organization is going are off of secluded tables in night clubs.
MHH: Shagging Dater one contributor at a time.
I’ll take another crack at it, using the players from the most recent 2009-2010 post.
Stoa – Stastny – Hejduk
Stewart – Wolski – Svatos
McLeod – Galiardi – Jones
Tucker – Hensick – Willsie
reserves: Koci, ?
Hannan – Liles
Salei – Quincy
Clark – Foote
reserve: Preissing
I’m really not terribly high on Hensick. He’s not really suited for 3rd line duty and I don’t think that he’s a good enough scoring thread to be considered amongst the top 6.
I like Galiardi at third line center. He’s not very big. But, he throws his body around. And he’s shown some scoring touch as well. With McLeod and Jones with him, I think that could be a big/dangerous third line.
I think that Stoa has a chance at a solid 40-45 point rookie season and I would love to see him get some time with Stastny and Hejduk.
I’m thinking that the coaching staff may give Tucker more top 6 minutes than anyone would like. And yeah, he sucked last year. But, since the lockout, he’s put up decent second line numbers and I think that this new coaching staff will give him a shot to do that again. I would just rather see the team’s younger players get those minutes, since they’re supposed to be rebuilding.
I am hoping that Stewart, Wolski, and Svatos all have big years. I am also hoping that Duchene makes the team and centers the second line. If that happens, I think that it’s more likely that Wolski will get bumped over to LW on one of the top two lines than him getting bumped down and centering the third line (although, I wish that the team had enough depth at forward that he could be the third line center).
