Avalanche Sign Kyle Cumiskey, Justin Mercier

The Colorado Avalanche have re-signed restricted free agent Kyle Cumiskey and have also inked Justin Mercier after what was reportedly a difficult negotiation. Terms were not listed in the press release. Cumiskey's salary on the NHLPA website is listed as $475,000 which seems to be an error. At some point, CapGeek.com should have the correct numbers for both before long. [UPDATE: Per CapGeek, it's two years, $600k cap hit. It also appears that this year's deal is a 2-way contract and next year's is a 1-way deal. I have to double check, but I believe Cumiskey becomes waiver eligible this season anyway]

In semi-related news, Victor Hedman recently signed with Tampa (and will wear #77 in honor of a certain former Av). Hedman's yearly cap hit will be $3.75 million. I'm sure you're curious to know that last year's number two, Drew Doughty, signed a contract with a cap hit of $3.475 million and the #3 pick, Zach Bogosian, has a cap hit of $3.375. So, figure...what, $3.6 million for Duchene? Oh, and for what it's worth, both of those players made their teams out of training camp.

I’m really looking forward to Mercier competing in camp. The Avs all of a sudden have a ton of young talent up the middle.

me too. i think he’s a Stoa-type case though, listed as a C but is actually a LW.

Funny, when I compiled my list of top 5 picks and their cap hits for my Gustavsson thread, Bogosian’s cap hit was listed at $2,725,000 on NHLSCAP.com. Now they have the $3.375 that you have listed. For what it’s worth, Hedman’s $3.75 million cap hit is the maximum for a rookie ($900,000 base salary + $2.85 million in potential bonuses).

Bogosians has changed, and I’m not sure why. I’d been using 2.725 when talking about Hedman for a while and was confused to see the numbers change.

question is
capgeek.com
or
nhlnumbers.com
or
nhlscap.com
better for NHL salary cap numbers?
which is more current, and eaiser to use

NHLSCAP has more accurate numbers. Chip only puts up the numbers if they are confirmed somewhere. The problem with that is that sometimes it takes a while for him to get the numbers. But, he also has a lot of cool CBA FAQ’s and explanations, lists of players with NTC’s/NMC’s, etc. on his website.

Nhlnumbers puts up unconfirmed numbers and even takes numbers from NHLSCAP, on occasion. But, they have a pretty easy to read format that projects forward a few of years and allows you to go backwards a couple of years as well.

Capgeek is a newer site, but posts accurate numbers and Matt has a lot of cool salary cap tools on his site such as the cap calculator, trade machine and buy out calculator. NHLSCAP actually has a write up on his site in which he apologizes for the lack of recent updates and states that he gave all of his numbers to capgeek. I am surprised that NHLSCAP is still doing any updates at all.

For quick and accurate numbers, I now go with capgeek. But, I still refer to all three of them as all three sites have something to offer.

Cumiskey’s cap hit is $600,000 for the next two years, according to capgeek.
