Re-sign Alex Tanguay?
*Update*: Eklund (I know, crap usually) is reporting that we're close to resigning him.
So, I know we just traded Smyth away in a move to dump salary. But honestly, I refuse to believe that we are done with moves this off-season. We need offensive help, and maybe a return trip by Alex, a left winger could be in the cards? What do you guys think? Is he too expensive? He doesn't seem to have many takers yet, and he *might* be had for cheaper than Smyth was.
His last season stats:
GP 50 G 16 A 25 Pts 45
But he is only two seasons removed from:
GP 81 G 22 A 59 Pts 81
And that 81 point season was with Iron Mike in Calgary.
So, MHH readers, what do you think?

I'm probably wrong as usual
but I don’t see the Avs adding ANY significant salary, especially given the acknowledgment that they are in full on rebuild mode. I think the kids are playing this year, with veteran leadership from foote and hejduk.
Get rid of the loser point
08-09 Avs- can we decline the penalty?
There’s been a couple of rumors out there that the Avs have talked with him, but they are too far apart on price?
I don’t think it’s going to happen, even though the Avs really need a LW.
MHH: Like the Avs organization, we’ve now officially lost our minds.
I'm The Canary - but I'm not cute nor cuddly, and I don't sing.
I dont think it will happen.
But wouldnt it be cool to have Stats center Duke and Tanger? Just a dream… LOL
The Avs may sign him to a discount 1 year deal and see if hes worth it… Weirder things have happened
I think they will make a trade
We have like 5,000 defensemen…likely they will trade one or two of them for a winger.
Joe Sakic.
sorry, pet peeve
and we didn’tresignre-sign one of them (Vernace).
fixed.

I would love to see Tanguay back in Denver and on the first line. I have no idea what he is asking for, but it must be significant if he doesn’t have any takers yet. Avs will not put any money up for the cap hit even though we just dumped Smyth’s salary. We do need a LW Wolski cannot do it all himself.

2008-2009 Colorado Avalanche: Dry Humping Mediocrity
bad move. I really don’t want to see Tanguay back. This was a guy that epitomized the “soft” label the Avs carried for awhile there. Definately talented, but it only showed when he was motivated. To often, he seemed ambivilent (sp?). He totally came thru for us against the Devils in ‘01, but beyond that he seemed content to be mediocre, and didn’t seem bothered by the teams struggles. I was happy to see him go.
I always liked the guy
But if we’re in rebuilding mode, I don’t see the point in signing a vet who’s only going to take time away from the kids. We need to know who’s ready and who’s not.
I’d rather see us trade one of our useless defenders for a decent LW prospect then sign Tanguay.
I agree with eltharion_doa...
The Avs could definitely save some money by trading Hannan, Clark, or Salei (or all 3) and get some good/young talent to build on as well as shed some salery. Hopefully they can make a good splash in next years FA with the money they are saving this season
Did a quick search but couldn't find the answer...
so I’m asking the wise and all-knowing folks of MHH: if the Avs stay below the salary cap (say by $5 million) does that money transfer over to the next season, giving the team an additional $5 million above the cap? Lucy, I’m so confused.

If the price was reasonable and there wasn't a NTC...
then I’d consider signing him in hopes that he had a decent season and that a playoff contender would need extra offense at the deadline and we could essentially flip his contract for picks and/or prospects.
That said, I doubt very much that he would come cheap, and if he did come cheap there would almost definitely be a no trade clause.
I say give tanguay another chance. He has his good moments, he should be worth 3-4 million a year.
I have also been looking at Heatley’s stats and i think he would be worth getting. Trade Hannan even up.
He is only 28 and would fit in nicely on the left wing with Stastny and Hejduk
Dany Heatley is a cancer wrapped in a heart attack with a poison chaser.
I could see doing a 1-2 year max deal with Tanger at no more than $3M per. If he wants more than that, maybe he’d like Novosibirsk? I hear its charming in mid-January.

Heatley is also a finalist for Douche of the Epoch.
He already won the qualifying Douche of the Millennium round.
