If we have Willsie and Hensick at center but not Duchene I’m totally gonna kick some Avs staffer in the nuts at a game. Duchene is going to be the 2nd or 3rd line center this season.

I’m torn. It’s kind of like drafting a QB high in the draft. Do you want him to get some experience on the bench (in the minors) or get his head kicked in all season long (with the avs). Stamkos, turris, didn’t Lecavilier get like 10 goals his first year? I think the best case scenario if Duchene stays up is Bergeron 16 goals 20 something odd assists.

Hmm

his latest update says he wants to, but he still hasn’t gotten out of his contract and is in court to do so.

But I’m fully confident that a Russian court will live up to the highest integrity and follow KHL rules even though it will potentially hurt the domestic Russian league.

I mean it’s a Russian court, it wouldn’t possibly make an unfair ruling right!

LW depth by salary

I just laughed when I realized that it is entirely possible that depth chart for LW could be in reverse order of salary at some point in the season. I mean, is it unreasonable to think that it could be 1st line Stoa > 2nd line Galiardi > 3rd McLeod > 4th Tucker at some point? Is there another team in the league that is a legitimate threat to be “upside down” in salary vs depth in that way?

by exredcoat on Jul 14, 2009 10:21 AM MDT reply actions

I'm curious as to

what Duchene’s contract is going to look like and what the hell we are going to do with our 11? defensemen. I’d personally would like to get a young veteran LW but a young vet C would be nice too.

So long Super Joe. In a class of your own in every sense of the word.

by Drakenlot on Jul 15, 2009 10:31 AM MDT up reply actions

$2.85 in bonuses is the max for an entry level contract. Maximum $900,000 base salary for rookies drafted in 2009. Hedman already signed for the maximum $3.75 million. I just read that Tavares signed. I didn’t see how much it was for, but I’d expect it also to be that same rookie max.

by c0nquistad0rian on Jul 15, 2009 12:10 PM MDT up reply actions

Brief and to the point

but accurate. I count 8 of the 13 forwards listed up top to be positioned over their head (either on a line over their capabilities or not even worthy of an NHL roster spot). Throw in the overpaid D-men from hell, and we have a recipe for the ultimate tank job.

Our 2009-2010 Avs: The towel has been thrown into the rink.

by Bob in Boulder on Jul 14, 2009 5:43 PM MDT up reply actions

Don’t forget the trade deadline…. never forget it.

After Clark and Salei shed half of their salary in the last year of their deals the Avs can trade them easily.. for more defensemen. In fact, with the depth there I think the Avs can just make the entire 4th line defensemen.

IF our new coaching staff is competent

All of our contact and agitation types should really have their hands untied. If Stats can hold up physically and mentally, I see our offensive corps being a little better than last year and I especially expect Footer and Tucker to make good bounceback seasons.

If only we had some gritty, talented tipster on the wing to support Liles and Quincey from the point…

the ‘10 draft’s top three are two LWs and a potential #1 or 2 D man at this point.

I just want Drury back... I recognize the Drury->Morris->Statsny chain, and I stick with the statement.

by wflan on Jul 15, 2009 2:01 AM MDT reply actions

Our outlook?

SO with this picture being close to what we’ll end up with, here’s how we did last year in terms of points percentage, goals for per game, goals against per game, special teams (power play and penalty killing) and goaltending (save percentage)

Team P% || RK || G/G || RK || GA/G || RK || PP% || RK || PK% || RK || Sv%|| RK

COL 0.421|| 28 || 2.32 || 30 || 3.08 | | 26 | | 15.7 | | 25 | | 79.9 | | 20 | | 0.894|| 27||

I honestly believe that with our defenders and a more competent system and goalie team, we can drop the goals against per game from 3.08 to around 2.5. I’m not sure scoring will go up however. I guess anything is possible without a Arnie and Tucker eating up valuable top line minutes…

I just want Drury back... I recognize the Drury->Morris->Statsny chain, and I stick with the statement.

If you took jones and stewart and switched them with highlander and galardi would any of you be completely devastated? I think it would give the team more balance up front even though you then have 4 guys playing out of position.

Also I’d drop ‘notables’ from other notables and just go with ‘other.’ It’s been a long time if ever since any of those guys have been considered notable.
