The 2009-2010 Avalanche [Updated With Cumiskey]
Not really much in the way of changes here, but I did want to get the updated numbers in on Kyle Cumiskey. I've also added Darren Haydar and Phillipe Dupuis to the "Other Notables" list.

If we have Willsie and Hensick at center but not Duchene I’m totally gonna kick some Avs staffer in the nuts at a game. Duchene is going to be the 2nd or 3rd line center this season.

Haha… He had better be. I don’t see how he could be worse than either of those two.

I’m torn. It’s kind of like drafting a QB high in the draft. Do you want him to get some experience on the bench (in the minors) or get his head kicked in all season long (with the avs). Stamkos, turris, didn’t Lecavilier get like 10 goals his first year? I think the best case scenario if Duchene stays up is Bergeron 16 goals 20 something odd assists.

oh, if he makes the club, no question about it

Strange
When i was just looking at it, my comment was gone.. did you “un-delete”it , or was it just a bizarre glitch?

I swear, I didn’t touch your comment

That’s what she said!

I suggest
We get a Jibbledictionary. So others can understand the difference between a normal jibble, a jibblekopf, and a jibblehallucination.
So long Super Joe. In a class of your own in every sense of the word.
This is the kind of lineup that could easily get a #3 draft pick. They are going to need to trade some defensemen if they really want to get into #1 or #2 land.

I’m not too happy with the depth at center and RW too. At least they’ll have depth at D.

RW is looking good. I’ts a bit green for my taste, but if we’re getting younger it’s pretty good.
Center looks a lot better with Duchene at 2nd, Wolski at 3rd and Hensick 4th.

You mean you don’t like Willsie at C?

I do
In Cleveland. I don’t really like Hensick there either.
Personally I’d rather sign a decent cheap LW (Taylor Pyatt people) and move Galiardi to center.

Fixed
At least they’ll have depthoverpriced underperforming bodies by the truckload at D.

holy shit
we’re really going to see Parshin? that guy Jibble linked to reports he’s already signed, and just has to get out of his contract? wow.
Parshin has been looking at these lineups, I bet.

if you’re a prospect, the Avs have to be attractive at some level — if you light the world on fire, you will make the team.

Between the deleted comment that wasn’t deleted and now the echo comment, I think Jibbles has discovered new ways to totally botch the simple task of replying. Only he could do it!
Go Avs! Let's get some goals!
Is that a
Jibbled.
Jibbled.
Colorado Avalanche: Please excuse the mess while we are under construction.
I don’t know how to do the little 2 after Jibbled so it would be like Jibbled Squared.
We are going to have to come up with an MHH dictionary soon.

Hmm
his latest update says he wants to, but he still hasn’t gotten out of his contract and is in court to do so.
But I’m fully confident that a Russian court will live up to the highest integrity and follow KHL rules even though it will potentially hurt the domestic Russian league.
I mean it’s a Russian court, it wouldn’t possibly make an unfair ruling right!

LW depth by salary
I just laughed when I realized that it is entirely possible that depth chart for LW could be in reverse order of salary at some point in the season. I mean, is it unreasonable to think that it could be 1st line Stoa > 2nd line Galiardi > 3rd McLeod > 4th Tucker at some point? Is there another team in the league that is a legitimate threat to be “upside down” in salary vs depth in that way?
I'm curious as to
what Duchene’s contract is going to look like and what the hell we are going to do with our 11? defensemen. I’d personally would like to get a young veteran LW but a young vet C would be nice too.
if this team stays as constructed you have to think that they will go with 7 guys on d and maybe put cuminsky at wing.

expect it to be about $3.6 million

Rookies
They can make 2.7 mil in bonuses? Wow.
So long Super Joe. In a class of your own in every sense of the word.
$2.85 in bonuses is the max for an entry level contract. Maximum $900,000 base salary for rookies drafted in 2009. Hedman already signed for the maximum $3.75 million. I just read that Tavares signed. I didn’t see how much it was for, but I’d expect it also to be that same rookie max.

Brief and to the point
but accurate. I count 8 of the 13 forwards listed up top to be positioned over their head (either on a line over their capabilities or not even worthy of an NHL roster spot). Throw in the overpaid D-men from hell, and we have a recipe for the ultimate tank job.

Don’t forget the trade deadline…. never forget it.
After Clark and Salei shed half of their salary in the last year of their deals the Avs can trade them easily.. for more defensemen. In fact, with the depth there I think the Avs can just make the entire 4th line defensemen.
I laughed hysterically when I saw this comment. Yeah we’re gunna tank like hell, but that means the #1 pick is coming our way in 2010. Who is 2010’s number one prospect?
Is Jibbled a franchise player?

Hall, Fowler, and someone else I can't seem to remember.

IF our new coaching staff is competent
All of our contact and agitation types should really have their hands untied. If Stats can hold up physically and mentally, I see our offensive corps being a little better than last year and I especially expect Footer and Tucker to make good bounceback seasons.
If only we had some gritty, talented tipster on the wing to support Liles and Quincey from the point…
the ‘10 draft’s top three are two LWs and a potential #1 or 2 D man at this point.
I just want Drury back... I recognize the Drury->Morris->Statsny chain, and I stick with the statement.
Our outlook?
SO with this picture being close to what we’ll end up with, here’s how we did last year in terms of points percentage, goals for per game, goals against per game, special teams (power play and penalty killing) and goaltending (save percentage)
Team P% || RK || G/G || RK || GA/G || RK || PP% || RK || PK% || RK || Sv%|| RK
COL 0.421|| 28 || 2.32 || 30 || 3.08 | | 26 | | 15.7 | | 25 | | 79.9 | | 20 | | 0.894|| 27||
I honestly believe that with our defenders and a more competent system and goalie team, we can drop the goals against per game from 3.08 to around 2.5. I’m not sure scoring will go up however. I guess anything is possible without a Arnie and Tucker eating up valuable top line minutes…
I just want Drury back... I recognize the Drury->Morris->Statsny chain, and I stick with the statement.

Justin Mercier’s deal is now listed on capgeek as a 2 year deal worth $562,500 per year. Maybe he can be listed as another notable next time around.

That lineup might look better
with ice girls.

The lineup would look better still
if Tucker were reassigned to captain the ice girls in Johnstown.

Nothing.

we need ice girls to make sure Anderson stays on his game… he gets so happy when he sees them!

If you took jones and stewart and switched them with highlander and galardi would any of you be completely devastated? I think it would give the team more balance up front even though you then have 4 guys playing out of position.
Also I’d drop ‘notables’ from other notables and just go with ‘other.’ It’s been a long time if ever since any of those guys have been considered notable.
