While we’re here (instead of on FB or somewhere else), I just thought I’d mention that we’re on pace for 50k visits this month. Not expecting the traffic trends to hold up as the month goes on, but that would be pretty amazing.

i’ve been meaning to ask, do you guys see any of the advertising dollars for the site? i sure hope so…

The authors of Mile High Hockey, like those of every SBN blog, do receive a quarterly payout. The amount varies per site. It’s not anything anyone could live on, but yes, we do get some return for our “work.”

How dare you!
Steal my thunder. Isn’t there some sort of Habs site that doubles as a strip club review?

I thought I heard
that the number retiring was going to be at the Saturday Canucks home game (which is not the home opener). Maybe I’m hallucinating (not the jibble kind)

Cool. Avs vs. Bruins is in Boston this year. At least I can get to see one game in person this year.

I’m okay with taking a vacation day for Avs games.
Probably easier than the times when I would streak out of the office on a weeknight to try to make it down to Long Island to see Avs vs. Islanders.

My SO just pointed out that the 8th is Columbus Day, which I still somehow get as a work holiday. So much for the “highly dedicated fan” portion of my hooky for hockey plan.

Two games in just over a month for me
Sat, October 10 against the Blackhawks (United Center)
Wed, November 11 against the Blackhawks (United Center)
Maybe I’ll just take my 3-year-old…and soon to be born son (AKA the free one) to one of them
Do you have season tickets or would you be buying single game tickets for the 10th?
If I decide to hit Chicago would you be down for a couple of companions (other than your kids)?

I’d be buying single tickets most likely…I know friends with season tickets, but they usually dont give up their weekend ones
I don’t blame them. I’ll work out my game-attending plans soon, I hope. If I decide to hit that game (Oct. 10th) one of us could buy four tickets and the other can pay ‘em back when they go on sale. I’ll keep you posted.
Go Avs! Let's get some goals!
Games I could easily attend this season:
October 8 @ Nashville
December 5 @ Columbus
January 2 @ Columbus
February 4 @ Nashville
And Chicago isn’t THAT far away. Might be a better plan to hit the United Center on Saturday the 10th of October than miss class on Thursday the 8th at Redneckville.

Totally off-topic
But is anyone else having a weird issue with the commenting today where hitting “z” to go to the next comment actually scrolls your browser back up to the top of the window and doesn’t mark anything as read?
Maybe it’s just me?

works for me, but I’ve had that happen before. I usually just close the browser then open it again.

I don’t remember this being in place last year but with the newly redesigned Avalanche website you can now click on the scheduled game in the calendar and you will get a pop up with a “listen now” link. A lot of people had to hunt message boards and obscure web feeds from Wyoming to get some Avalanche broadcasts on the Internet last year. Now, it looks like they are providing a link. I think we will all have to hunt for the preseason affairs since they aren’t on the schedule and the whole “NHL Game Radio” label feels like it’s primed for a service charge. However, for now I think it’s just a free service that a lot of Avs fans have found frustrating in the past.
As far the the schedule for 2009-10 is concerned, it’s nice to be the beneficiary of having a poor team for once. Ticket holders here will tell you that when the Avalanche were selling out the Pepsi Center we got stuck with weekend games against the Florida Panthers ALL THE TIME. Why? Because the league knows the Avs were going sell out no matter when the Red Wings came to town or any other high sought after ticket. Now they have to put on a decent Saturday game, it’s good to see there are no dogs playing on Saturday night. Philly, Islanders, Rangers and Washington are coming to Denver this year and that’s got me pumped. Atlanta and Florida are also making the visit but I’m happy to report they are playing on Wednesday and Thursday nights. Tampa Bay is coming on a Friday night and might be worth the price of admission to see VL, St. Louis and Hedman. Hell, even Atlanta could be compelling if Evander Kane and Kovulchuk show up. We may lose a lot of games but there’s going to be some fun teams to watch.

Good point about weekend games
Also seems to me that we had fewer than most other teams too due to the sellout factor. This year we appear to have quite a few Friday and Saturday games.

Tues Dec 15th: Ovie and the Caps @ Colorado. Everyone gets to be all nostalgic as Theo sits on the bench in a baseball cap.

thanks to the Olympics
Vancouver goes over a month without a home game. They have a 14-game road trip scheduled around the Olympics. Brutal.

Two questions:
- anyone know when tickets go on sale?
- are we looking at getting a MHH group together?
I am already looking at book airfare to get to this game (I’m already thinking I will stay in Denver for Saturday’s game vs the Nucks), and want to make sure I’m going to be able to get tickets to the home opener.
MHH: Like the Avs organization, we’ve now officially lost our minds.
I'm The Canary - but I'm not cute nor cuddly, and I don't sing.
right there with ya
i’ve already secured the days off and will def want to go to the ’nucks game as well. (cheers for the tip, canary!) looking into flights as we speak…er, as i type.
i’m kinda annoyed with the avs front office (what else is new, right?) cuz they’re not giving folks on their email list presale ops. i got the sched email from the kings 20 minutes after the sched was released and am able to buy tix to their opener allready. there are things i really do appreciate about the kings. /sigh

I’m trying to talk Mike into it. I think we’ll drive, but still deciding. Airfare for the 3 of us is running about $530 total which is a bit much with hotel, car, and game tickets. At least if we drive we’ll just have hotel, tickets, and food.
What sections should we all be looking at when tickets do eventually go on sale?
i’m shooting for between the blue lines, bottom 4 rows, in the top section. with airfare and going to the canucks game as well, i’m thinking i can only afford the $60ish range.
