Matt Duchene Signs
Terms not announced yet, but they aren't all that important anyway...
"It’s a dream come true," said Duchene. "To be part of an NHL organization is something you always strive for as a kid. This is the first step, but I know I have a lot of work to do to reach my goal of playing in the NHL."

Sweet. I’ll start sizing myself up for a #9 jersey -I got my sakic in college and since then I’ve stopped growing up and now am only going forward.

Good to hear.
Did everyone see this local paper piece on Duchcene? http://www.haliburtonecho.ca/PrintArticle.aspx?e=1643611
I mean, he wasn’t just a fan…. He’s one of US. He’s a total die hard.

I want to know the rules to playing “War” with player trading cards.
Highest Jersey Number wins?
Career points wins?
Unanimous agreement on which player is the best? – This would be the most fun since it would lead to heated debates, and possibly dropping the gloves.
you each have a stack. one person picks a stat – say, career goals. whoever has the highest wins. lather, rinse, repeat (my friend and I did this with cards that had stats of military ships – the Ticonderoga was tops in everything, iirc)

okay, i'm convinced
duchene is going to be the next long-term captain for the avs. footer or the duke will get it the next couple of years, but it will be matty d who wears it for years to come if for nothing else than the fact he’s spent his entire life modeling joe sakic on and off the ice (the off part being the particularly telling part).
and i couldn’t be happier about it.

Humility?
Just another Joe Sakic trait he might have….

New Guy
Good one, Joe. I’m new here, by the way. This is my first message on this site. I’m in San Antonio, but I used to live in Denver when I was a kid. I look forward to moving back and going to Avs games. Good to know there are plenty of good Avs fans around. My wife is from Calgary, so she’s a Flames fan…
Welcome aboard, Alex! Thanks for dropping a line and saying hello.
Sorry to hear your wife is a fan of the Flame-Outs. Not sure how you guys make it work, but kudos for doing so. Not sure I could handle that.
Go Avs! Let's get some goals!
Flames games are actually pretty fun. I go to one every time we visit her family. Those fans are nuts. Everyone, almost every single person has a Flames jersey. That’s no lie. Those flames they shoot from the jumbo-tron are so hot, you can feel it. Anyway, I look forward to seeing Duchene slip through Bouwmeester, right before he burns a hole in Kiprusoff’s net. That will be fun to watch…

At least he didn’t marry a fan of Les Ailes….

Welcome
Hell, everyone seems to be moving back to Denver right now. Why not join the crowd?
An ounce of confidence can carry you a mile toward winning. Oh, and Red Wings suck.
i’m considering it myself. so cal is great and all, but i miss the snow. oh and being able to celebrate when i hear the horn go off instead of sinking in my seat with head in hands.

Jeez
oh and being able to celebrate when i hear the horn go off instead of sinking in my seat with head in hands.
I hear that. I’ve never been to an out of town Avs game so I have no idea what that feels like but I can imagine. On a side note, I think I might make it to Frozen Fury this year. As such, I hope I don’t have to feel that feeling because isn’t that considered a Kings home game?
An ounce of confidence can carry you a mile toward winning. Oh, and Red Wings suck.
It is a King’s home game…and the games have always been close. Only once has a team one by more than one goal.
FF I – 1997 Avs 3 – 4 Kings OT
FF II – 1998 Avs 2 – 3 Kings / Avs 5 – 4 Kings (two games)
FF III – 1999 LA vs Phoenix
FF IV – 2000 Avs 5 – 4 Kings
FF V – 2001 Kings – Sharks
FF VI – 2002 Avs 5 – 6 Kings
FF VII – 2003 Avs 1 – 3 Kings
FF VIII – 2005 Avs 2 – 1 Kings OT
FF IX – 2006 Avs 2 – 3 Kings
FF X – 2007 Avs 2 – 3 Kings SO
FF XI – 2008 Avs 4 – 3 Kings SO
Overall record: 4-4-1-1

last year's win rocked
cuz i was the lone Avs fan, sporting my Duke jersey, in the middle of the Kings VIP party complete with Robitaille, McSorley and Deader. Funny how only Deader seemed genuinely happy to take a pic with me. I wonder why? lol

Welcome Alexander!
I too come from a “mixed” family. My brother in law grew up in Alberta and is a total Flamers fan. Then again, they live in Calgary and he is my brother in law so nothing like the domestic conflict that must arise in your household!

Thanks for the welcome, Joe. Do you know when training camp begins, or do you know if any of the Avs’ preseason games will be televised on TV or Center Ice?
not sure about the first, but usually the games are not televised on Center Ice. Unfortunately.

Duchene’s entry level contract calls for him to make $900,000 in salary in each of the three seasons. The Avalanche cap hit will be $3.2 million a season when bonus figures are included.

Go Avs! Let's get some goals!
I am soooo geeked up to see this kid on the ice!
I’ve been kicking around nickname ideas.
Matt Duchene —> initials MD —> MD = Medical Doctor —> Matt Duchene, Hockey Doctor / Hockey Doctor, MD / The Doctor (apologies to our comrade in Ft. Collins)
Ladies & Gentlemen, start your flamethrowers.
2009-2010 Colorado Avalanche - "Hey Brother, can you spare a Left Winger?"
I think “Hockey Doctor” has a good ring to it, maybe “The Surgeon” or “Doctor Duchene”.
Let’s hope we don’t end up calling him “Scrubs.”
Go Avs! Let's get some goals!
I like Dr D (just cuz it’s quick to type and has a nice ring to it)

given his age and boyish looks, the only doctor related nickname that really works is Doogie

I like Doogie, but I’d like also to throw out Young Padawan in reference to his Star Wars fandom. Just a thought.
Not bad,
but I was thinking that we need to be mindful of the fact that he will not always be the young pup, especially as he continues to emulate SuperJoe and potentially take the C. It would be tough for us fans to either a) decide one day that he was “all grown up” and stop using a handle that we had for him for the previous several years or b) continue to call a grizzled 42 year old veteran with 6 Stanley Cups, a Calder and more Harts, Lady Byngs, Conn Smythes etc than the rest of the league put together (plus a Vezina – don’t ask me how, but mark my word….) “Young Padawan”. Ironic, maybe, funny, perhaps, weird, definitely.

Then we’ll just start calling him Barney

Well of course by then he would graduate to Jedi. The Padawan status is just for the fact that he is a young pup. After he has learned the ropes, he would be promoted.
Wow. Do I sound like a super-dork yet?
maybe

I wanted to see if the avs shop had those t-shirts with the numbers on the back up for Doogie yet and they didn’t—although they now have one for sham wow (I sh*t you not) and still have some for Smyth—without a discount….I’m sure those are selling like hotcakes.
So then I went and looked for his OHL stuff, didn’t find a customized shirt but some other cool stuff: http://www.rivercitysports.com/chl_shop/products.cfm?subcatChoice=All&teamChoice=BRAMPTON%20BATTALION&prodChoice=all
But mostly I write to ask this: Who do you hate enough to get a tucker T-shirt for? It’s not like that’s going to get you any with your girlfriend or make your kid happy…

I’m pretty sure that one of us bought a Smytty T less than a week before the trade.
Following that logic, we should all purchase one of ShamWow’s Ts in order to force the Almighty to ensure that he is traded (I really don’t care for what at this point, so long as it isn’t to the Rangers for the Black Hole).
After the trade is acheived, we could all use the ShamWow Ts as, you know, ShamWows. One has to presume, just based on the name on the back, that they would having sucking power unparelleled on this planet.
