The 2009-2010 Avalanche [Updated With Anderson And Koci]
The Avs still have some money. As it is right now, they could probably afford both Duchene and Sakic next year...

Lookin’ good, DDC.
Last year’s numbers are not up anymore, but NHLSCAP.com had Cumiskey’s salary for last season listed at .551667. If that’s the case, his minimum QO would have to be .606834. It’s a minimal enough difference.
I always found NHLSCAP to be a more accurate resource than nhlnumbers.com, although it was slower to update. And now we see that Chip at NHLSCAP has decided to pass along his information, including some new calculators, to another site, capgeek.com.
At least we know that there’s another resource out there.
that was where myl mistake with Cumiskey came from the other day. His cap number last year because of a bonus was .551, but his salary was 475.

I really don’t expect much more to happen for the Avs. In reality, what they did yesterday was about as much as they could do. The salary left over makes me believe that Sakic is coming back for his officially farewell tour.
We shall see
I mentioned yesterday that I think the Avs could be done in the free agent market. Assuming that Sakic realizes he has to take a pay cut if he comes back, they’ve left room for him to do so. And/or, they’ve left room for guys like Duchene, Stoa, and Galiardi to compete for roster spots as well. I’m excited for either of those possibilities.

I can’t get over myself. WTF Darcy Tucker is still doing in this team? I say, let’s release him, give Captain Joe one more year in the third line along with Duchene, so latter will gain some experience. I don’t know what to do with second line. Maybe move Stewart there?
I’m pretty sure the buy-out deadline has passed, so at this point we are stuck with him.
As for why he is still on the team… my assumption is that the Greg&Co looked at his production over the course of his career and saw a marked decrease in his point production when he got here. Even in ‘07-’08, when the leafs bought him out, he had 36 points. Last year’s 16 was his lowest production in 10 years. I think that they see this not as Tucker’s fault, but as the style of coaching. Blame Granato’s “system”, and keep him on instead of buying him out and taking the cap hit over three years.
And who knows? Maybe Sham-wow will improve under a different coach.
Or maybe he’s a worthless douche-canoe that doesn’t know his thumb from his dick.
Sippin' PBR on a Colorado game day...
buyout period has ended. he can still be waived and sent to the minors, but I don’t know that the Avs will do that.

Watch him end up having the best year of his career… wouldn’t that be funny?

Yes
But it would’ve been much funnier if he had the best year of his career last year. Too late for that though.
But like mfured said, he really can only go up from last year.

Darcy
is an infamous agitator, listed along with the likes of Claude Lemieux… I think the “lie down and take it block shots” style of coaching left our team softer than a fresh sham-wow. Maybee he was just a bit handcuffed and can still be useful for something. Maybee.
I just want Drury back... I recognize the Drury->Morris->Statsny chain, and I stick with the statement.
