Joe Sakic's future.
The biggest problem that I have with the mulling over Joe's decision is
#1: there is no wave of players, in my opinion, that can replace him if he chooses to retire. Take Detroit for instance (I can't believe I'm using them as a reference other than I watch them almost as much as I watch the Avs STRICKTLY cuz I live in Detroit. Look at my other post, I hate them). Yzerman retired and Lidstrom took over. They still had guys like Draper, Maltby, Datsyuk, Zetterberg, (reaquiring) Osgood, and Holmstrom to lessen the blow. It was almost seemless to them. The only guys we have on the roster that were with any of the Cup winning teams are Foote (who's gone soon), and Hejduk. The other guys that we have some sort of familiarity with, i.e. Liles, Svatos, Clark, (all which people are saying should be shopped), and Statsny, I'm just not that comfortable with passing the leadership down to them, especially after seeing what the Avs are capable of doing to fan favorites (Smyth and Lappy, and Tanguay, Drury, and Aebischer not too long ago).
#2: No one really seems to care and just address it as whether or not he comes back. Maybe thats just me not wanting to concede that we should just move forward with or without a legitimate "heir" to the team once he's gone and just go with a complete "wipe the board clean" approach.

I say yes
because the holes are so big without him, both in lines and in leadership. The snowblower thing would be such an awful way to go out, especially since we were lead to believe he was so close at the end of the year.
I think that he won’t be getting his seventh 100 point year, but I’m sure he recognizes that his legacy, the fans, and the young players would all be much better off for one final year.
I just want Drury back... I recognize the Drury->Morris->Statsny chain, and I stick with the statement.
Smyth
I really thought Smyth was going to be needed for a leadership role this season. So Stats will really need to step up if Joe doesn’t come back.
Sometimes guys do well under that kind of pressure and there is no way to know until the moment.
I think the poll results are rather amusing, I voted with my heart, as I think most people did. This is an Avs site after all. The same poll on From the Rink would likely yield the opposite result.
