Jones signs 2-yr deal?
Adrian Dater is reporting he's heard Jones has signed, but no details as of yet.
I’m hearing Jones has signed a two-year deal with the Avs, but haven’t gotten it totally confirmed yet, and I don’t know for how much either.
No confirmation on the Haydar rumors.
I’ve heard the Darren Haydar rumors too, but don’t have it confirmed that he’s signed anything with the Avs. It’s a holiday weekend, and a lot of people around the team are off.
Avs may still be looking to bring in someone:
*People are asking about whether the Avs are in the market for a forward/center/PK guy/whomever, and my best answer right now is: could be. Guys like Yelle/Malhotra/Betts are out there still, and no it wouldn’t shock me if the Avs tried to sign one of them.

Stastny?
I would imagine Sherm could really hold someone’s feet to the fire on that one. They could probably retrieve another overpaid D-man coming off of a career worst season, another potential up and comer coming off of back surgery, and a 4th rounder!

I think it's pretty safe to say
SoS is one of the completely safe guys.
2008-2009 Avalanche: It's like watching a car crash.
With this “Organization” no one is completely safe…though SoS is probably the closest to it.
MHH: Like the Avs organization, we’ve now officially lost our minds.

NHL.com´s player search page for the Avalanche has Brian Willsie, Kyle Cumiskey, Philippe Dupuis, Matt Hendricks, Chris Durno, Tyler Weiman, and Jones listed for Colorado´s 2009-10 active roster. This would indicate that these players have signed for at least next season, but there has yet to be an official announcement.
Jori had an interesting observation regarding Jones and several other players. I am thinking that she’s on the right track.

Those QO numbers for RFA’s are only MINIMUMS needed to retain the rights of that player. Most teams don’t sign their RFA’s to the minimum amount that they are required, unless that player was already making league minimum and only played a fourth line role.
Pretty sure that the RFA has the right to not sign his QO and hold out or file for arbitration, if he is eligible. Or he could even sign an offer sheet from another team if one is tendered. In both cases, they were given fair contracts.

I think that in many cases, the minimum QO is just a formality for the team to keep the rights to a player. Just look at the situation in Chicago. Had those QO’s been sent via courier instead of post, there wouldn’t be any contraversy. But regardless, teams usually continue negotiating after the Qo is tendered. And each and everyone of those RFA’s (Brouwer, Fraser, Eager, Johnson, Barker) signed for more than their minimum QO’s had to be.

im aware, but Jones wasn’t eligible for arbitration afaik. I like Jones, but I don’t see why we consider it required to pay RFAs more than their QOs when they don’t file for arbitration and no one else is really interested in them. good will with the player?
More or less. I think that it really shows what that the organization is interested in the player’s future with the team and his worth to the organization.
