Andrew Raycroft Signs With Vancouver
Yes, really.
Raycroft was 0-2 with a 4.03 and .860 save percentage against the Canucks last year, so I guess they'll have no surprises.
All joking aside...best of luck in Vancouver, Razor.

Nycholat? Trade with Calgary must be imminent. Arnason and Raycroft gone, can we send Tucker to Vancouver, too? Will trade 5th round pick and turkey sandwich to make it happen.
People here are frowning about the signing. I love it. Kovalev to Ottawa has made today complete.
Turkey sandwich?
you just want everything don’t you. Whats wrong with ham?

The Turkey Sandwich:
It’s the new bag of pucks. Useful for twenty minutes, and then you can pretend it never existed.
Raycroft signed in Vancouver because:
• Amsterdam doesn’t have a club yet
( C’mon it’s fun, everyone try)

Amsterdam does have a club, but they try to harsh everyone’s mellow with all that crazy European “doping” testing. You heard about that guy with the Cologne team right? BOGUS!
Raycroft signed in Vancouver because:
• He wants to hang out with the Olympians come February. Not the Hockey players, the snowboarders

Raycroft Presser
“So like my dealer, oops, I mean friend man, just “friend”. Anyway, he gets his stuff from the Couve man. So I’m like cutting out the, the, median man? No, its middle man ya know. And like, there are these microwavable burritos here man that are just killer dude. So, its pretty rad signing with the Calgary Canucks dude. So much cooler than that Toronto Avalanche team, er whatever they are called, I was on."
Wow?
With a stud like Schneider in the pipeline, what’s the thinking here?
If you don't eat your meat, you can't have any pudding! HOW can you have any pudding if you don't eat your meat?!
Backup
Rayzor will back Luongo up, meaning he’ll never play. There’s no sense letting a talent like Schneider rot on the bench. He’s better off in the AHL getting regular playing time. My guess is that if Luongo gets hurt again this year, they’ll bring Schneider up to start. A team that seems to be this close to competing for the Stanley Cup would have to be crazy to allow Rayzor to start for any significant amount of time. Keep Schneider’s game-face on just in case he’s needed.
Then again, we are talking about Canuckistan. They’ve made some pretty dumb moves in the past.
"Horton is win."

At what point does Schneider get tired of the AHL and demand a trade? Feels like the kid’s been there forever.
They can't trade him yet
This is a free agent year for Luongo. They’d be crazy to trade Schneider now. If Luongo signs an extension, then they’ll trade him, but not yet.

Funny story....
I actually met Marty McSorley last month at an ice hockey camp. We talked for a long time about hockey and I was pissing and moaning about the state of the Avs. He told me had played with Raycroft on the east coast somewhere, don’t remember where, and he goes “Yeah…he’s pretty shitty.”

Yeah it was pretty fun. He’s a nice guy too. We took pictures of him beating me up.

Luongo's groin had better stay healthy
or it is going to be a loooooooong season for the Canucks.
Colorado Avalanche: Please excuse the mess while we are under construction.
Don't worry
Raycroft was brought in to give him something to dull the pain.

Perhaps they'd like Clark or Hannan to replace Ohlund on the blueline?
…we want Rayzor to feel at home, right?
I’d take Hodgson in a straight up trade for either FWIW….
I figured it out
They ‘let’ Rayzor go to the Nucks so he get the FO stoned and the Nucks give us the rights to Hodgson for Tucker.
Get. This. Done. Now. Dwight.

Our 2009-2010 Avs: The towel has been thrown into the rink.

It's not even properly illegal here!
Imagine what Rayzor will be able do with the exchange rate and cheap prices!
I just want Drury back... I recognize the Drury->Morris->Statsny chain, and I stick with the statement.
From the Rink
Mirtle just hammers Raycroft and the ’nucks for the signing. Hehehehe
Scary part of his list is that 3 of those 10 really bad goalies have played here…and two were drafted here!!! (Thibault was drafted “here” before the Avs were actually here…but still)
For all the ripping on Raycroft…and deservedly so, his stats were much worse than Peter Budaj’s…and he gets defended on here to the ends of the earth.
Budaj 20-29 (2.86 and a .899
Raycroft 12-16 (3.14 and a .892)
The GAA differential is a bigger gap, but the rest of the stats are similar, and behind that same D that gets blamed for everything Budaj-related…but apparently not Raycroft related. It’s gotta go both ways kiddies.
That’s why I wanted both goalies gone
his
goals against was higher because of smaller sample size in games played his save percentage was only.007 behind which would lead me to believe what the shots against and goals allowed were…I am willing to say Budaj is serviceable as a back-up and based off the numbers you presented, same goes to Razor….as a starter though OH HAIIILLLL NOO, honestly the free agent market has some better goalies for a starter and back up and with the Smyth trade wouldve made it easier to sign them
Pujols takes out "I" in BIG and "A" in MAC, previously considered to be an unyielding, consonant threat
Yeah but...
Budaj doesn’t seem like a total stoner!
In all seriousness, I don’t think Raycroft had as bad a season as his stats led people to believe. I think GAA and W-L are junk stats (I don’t look at them at all), and I think his Save % would have been much better had the Defense been better.
that said, a .007 difference in save % is a big one, as far as save % goes. Budaj wouldn’t have been nearly as panned this season had he had a .906 save %. but I agree with you that they played pretty similar this season. I am very happy Raycroft got another chance to prove himself, because I don’t think his numbers did him any justice. He rebounded from some truly abysmal play in Toronto to be below-average. That’s an improvement.
I think the biggest difference between the two goalies, and the reason Raycroft gets so much crap (other than him being a total stoner) is that those stats are the worst season in Budajs career, and they are the best in the last 5 years for Raycroft. Budaj has played well recently and has the potential to bounce back.
The other difference is that this is Budaj’s first truly bad season. There’s every reason to believe he’ll bounce back and play like he did before last season (a little regression to the mean). This was Raycroft’s best season since his Calder campaign 5+ years ago. There’s a lot more room for skeptacism there. That and Budaj’s problem seems to be mental. He seems to let big moment overwhelm him, but he’s young and has the opportunity to overcome that. Raycroft, at this point looks to be more of a lost cause.
by Jibblescribbits on Jul 7, 2009 7:26 AM MDT up reply actions
I agree…but from the panning he gets, and the love fest that Budaj gets, you would think that Raycroft never won a game here…while Budaj was all sunshine and McNab’s that had a few bad bounces.
That’s all I am saying. He’s gone, I will root on Budaj, and hope he does rebound (even though I am not his biggest fan)
I really think most of it is because it’s pretty tough to make fun of Budaj, and it’s easy to make fun of Raycroft.
Some people are just put on this world for comic-relief.
by Jibblescribbits on Jul 7, 2009 8:23 AM MDT up reply actions
I think some of it stems from the Budaj vs Raycroft
started by the muppets. It forced people to have to take sides, and most of us here felt we needed to defend Budaj. It was all pretty silly and stupid, IMO.
I see Raycroft sort of like the Backstreet Boys. He had that really great Calder year and wants to go back to that. Like the Backstreet Boys, I think those days are over. I do hope Rayzor has a successful year with the Canuck.
I am rooting for both Anderson and Budaj, the offense, and the defense, because basically the Avs can’t win unless ALL these pieces play well.
And Avs, get a good goalie coach already!
Colorado Avalanche: Please excuse the mess while we are under construction.
Also
Budaj was a player a lot of us watched grow from AHL to NHL, there’s more of a connection there.
Raycroft was a guy who was the butt of jokes in Toronto before coming here.

I will root on Budaj, and hope he does rebound
Well, there are certain people around here who believe he will rebound, and have very poor control at it at that. This same person also very publicly stated recently that while Raycroft was a victim of poor defense, Budaj had his chance and needs to go. Any guesses on who this person is?
Get rid of the loser point
08-09 Avs- can we decline the penalty?
