Today In Colorado Avalanche History

Forsberg0215_medium

August 3rd, 2005 - Another day, another lost "A". One day after losing Adam Foote to the Columbus Blue Jackets, superstar Peter Forsberg signs with the Philadelphia Flyers for 2 years, $11.5 million. Sadly, to date that has been Foppa's last big payday in the NHL.

I still don’t understand why the Avs didn’t try to get him back for that kind of money. But all’s in the past now,
we’re rebuilding!

I would tend to agree…although this is the year Forsberg’s health started to go straight to hell. In hindsight, he had 1 decent season with Philly, then the trade to Nashville, and (outside of that final few, very few games last year) it’s been “what can go wrong today” Forsberg ever since.

I was sad when this happened, but in hindsight…it wasn’t the worst thing ever,

The worst thing ever

is the probems with his foot. For someone who possess a true gift to play hockey, it is manifestly unjust that this health issue keeps him sidelined. If I had one hockey wish, it would be that Foppa’s foot heals so that he can complete his NHL career with the Avs.

Colorado Avalanche: Please excuse the mess while we are under construction.

I feel really bad for Forsberg, I mean the guy has tried things that science actually had to come up with to try…and nothing took effect. Forsberg ended up becoming a product for his own style of play. Which was a great and entertaining style, don’t get me wrong

In fact, I heard a commentator last year say that if Ovechkin keeps up his style of play (all out, and hit anything that moves)…he may "end up like Forsberg.

I remember that. Forsberg’s story is pretty sad, and I do hop Ovie doesn’t follow suit, but man they were/are both fun to watch!

Back up job?

Foppa could have a second career on Trueblood if he’d work on that accent…

Why are most of these “Today in Colorado Avalanche History” posts so damned depressing? Seriously.

The Avs may suck now, but they've still won a Cup more recently than 75% of the NHL.

Kinda stupid I guess but true

It was raining that day here in Colorado and…seriously…I teared up in the car on the way to work when they announced it. It was and is, the single saddest “sports fandom” day of my life.

yeah, why is that?

Hyphens cause writers more trouble than any other form of punctuation, except perhaps commas.

but foppa pics aren’t any better given the inevitability of his looming retirement as well.

I’m pretty sure this is photoshopped because according to me that never happened—and if you press me on it, I’ll start to say “Nah, nah, nah, I can’t hear you.” with my fingers in my ears.

I'm normally not a praying man, but if you're up there, please save me Superman---the official slogan of the 2009'-10' Colorado Avalanche. (and Homer Simpson).
