Avs make two more cuts; reduce roster to 27
Looks like the Avs reassigned Ryan Stoa and Ryan Wilson to Lake Erie this morning. Four more players will still be cut to reduce the current 27 man roster down to the 23 man opening night roster. Tyler Weiman, Derek Peltier, and Chris Durno are probably three of the obvious choices. As has been said, most all teams are set in their goaltending. So, the risk of losing Weiman via waivers is minimal. Peltier is not eligible for waivers while Durno is. Other bubble players could include: T.J. Galiardi, Matt Hendricks, Ryan O'Reilly, Kyle Cumiskey, or even Tom Preissing.
I think that at this point, Galiardi's spot on the opening night roster is secure. Although, he is also exempt from waivers.
Matt Hendricks might have literally fought his way onto the team. He is waiver eligible.
It's kind of looking like Radar might be this team's fourth line center, at least to start the season. He has yet to play his way off of this team. And he can play upto 9 regular season games and still be eligible to be sent back to his junior team, as we saw with Wolski's first action with the Avs.
The Avs are now at risk of losing Cumiskey to waivers or otherwise starting the season with 8 defensemen and one less forward.
It's almost looking as though Preissing might be waived, or start the season on IR, given that he has yet to play a game with his "minor knee injury."
It's also possible that the Avalanche themselves may be active in waivers, claiming a player from another team.

Cumiskey
I would hate to lose Cumiskey. He is still young and has good potential.
good thoughts – sums up a lot of what I was going to say.
O’Reilly isn’t signed yet, which is going to be factor if the team intends to keep him

I spoke to soon.
let’s test this out: I haven’t been able to sleep with Scarlett Johansson yet

I was dreading the Stoa cut, but it is probably for the best. If he couldn’t really get much ice time in the preseason, he would have been riding the bench or in the press box during the regular season for sure. I’m really hopeful that he can play the beginning of the season for the Monsters the same way he started out the season for the Gophers last year and be a fairly early call up either for an injury or because someone isn’t working out (for example if they give Radar the 10 day look then send him back to Erie).
As I said in one of the training camp threads, I’m really surprised that the knock on him is his speed based on watching him last year. If it is really just a first step thing combined with constantly keeping his feet moving (as AD is saying) then there should be a decent chance he can improve on that. If it is more his maximum speed or something that Sacco just doesn’t like about his game….well that could be more problematic.
chances are, we will see these guys again this year. even if we don’t get ravaged by injuries like the last 2 seasons, there will be a need for SOME call ups

we’ll need to call somebody up when the team is finally successful in trading Tucker…because there is no way we’ll be getting an NHL level player in return, or in fairness an AHL caliber player.
And don’t shatter my dreams and tell me we’ll never be able to trade Tucker.
Your dreams live!
That’s what waivers are for!!
2009-2010 Colorado Avalanche - "Hey Brother, can you spare a Left Winger?"
Well looks like we are getting closer to deciding our opening night lineup. i am hoping that me make a move prior to the start of the season especially being we have way too many defensemen. IMO but no matter what i am looking forward to seeing the new lineup and fresh faces on the ice mixed in with the faces we remember and recognize.
FYI: Dominic Moore is still out there, and would make a great addition to this team.
I don’t think there’s a chance in hell of us signing him, but I think it would be a good move.

Blair Betts would also be good. He would be a much better penalty killer than Moore – as Betts had a /- of -2.16 per 60 minutes of penalty kill time versus -10.32 for Moore. Before you throw out the "/- is a meaningless counting stat" line – Betts also had far worse teammates and a stronger quality of opposition to face than Moore. Moore would be able to contribute more offence however.
Realistically, the chance of either signing is improbable, but one can hope (like seeing Tucker traded/waived).
+/- in situational settings is a much better indicator than lumping them all together.

AD’s video interview with Coach Sacco makes me think Durno’s got a real shot to stick. And, imo, no way Galiardi does not make the team, he’s a lock if you ask me.
yeah, get ready for a season of TJ jokes by other announcers because we’re going to have to this year. I expect them to be even more hilarious than the Cody jokes of last year.
I don’t think we can rule out Durno yet either, but I still don’t think he’s going to make it.

I think they should put Tucker on a line with the two TJ’s….. they could be the TJ Hooker line (as in “STUPID FRIGGIN HOOKING PENALTY TUCKER!!!”)
