A great heart and soul guy…one we fleeced from the Caps. When he went down, the Avs lost a lot of “something”

As far as I’m concerned, the day he had to retire was the day the Avs started this slide into mediocrity.

Yeah, but I think that’s a coincidence. No doubt he had a lot of heart (like Lappy), but he wasn’t the type of franchise building player. He was just an asset.

I miss him though

yeah

Probably. But that loss hurt that ’06-07 team (the first to miss the playoffs) a lot. And I think caused a few panic moves within the organization.

I agree 100%. Even if his retirement was merely a mile-marker on the road to mediocrity, it was mile marker 1.

2009-2010 Colorado Avalanche: Nothing Inspirational Comes to Mind

yep…not because of Kono himself, but that was when things started to go wrong.

To me it seems that the second he went down, the Avs work ethic went with him…of course Tony Granato was behind the bench that year, which may have had something to do with it.

Those are the guys that I’ve missed most: The ones that never quit working. Konowalchuk, Laperriere, Dave Reid, Stephane Yelle.

the fact that

you forgot Shjon Podein makes me sad. I loved that guy.

Me too. He had the coolest name!

Shjon Podein's 24 hours in the apron-free uniform!

I’ll never forget that. Still remember seeing him high-five Trey Anastasio outside the Chophouse late in the evening.
