With the Avs win last night, I thought there would surely be a lot of articles, and lots of articles to link to. I mean, Chris Stewart got a hat trick, John Michael Liles saw his point streak end, Peter Budaj allowed five goals and still got the "W", there were two fights. It was a game where the Avs did not roll over and die.
Unfortunately the rest of the league, and it's journalist, must have been in bed already. Long gone are the days where a 2 goal lead was enough to say that the losing team could not come back from it. So here goes, there aren't that many - yet, I'll keep hunting and add some throughout the day.
From the The Denver Post
"I thought we played well tonight. I thought we generated a lot of chances. We had some timely goal scoring. Stewart continues to play well, and our so-called third line — O'Reilly and Winnik, who came up with a huge goal, and Brandon Yip — (meant) we got a lot of contributions from a lot of different guys tonight. Crazy game, but obviously, we like the outcome."
The Avalanche website talks about the end of the streak for Liles.
Liles’ Steak Ends, But Others Continue John-Michael Liles was held off the score sheet tonight, ending his season-opening nine-game assist/point streak. Liles’ streak set an NHL record for the longest assist streak by a defenseman to begin a season and made him the first blueliner with points in each of his team’s first nine games of a season since Chicago’s Doug Wilson opened the 1981-82 campaign with a 10-game point streak.
And a little blurb on Cann
Oakville’s Trevor Cann was named the Central Hockey League goalie of the week.
And a blurb on David Van der Gulik
"It's been incredible," Van der Gulik said on Wednesday via cell phone from Calgary, where his Avalanche were preparing for a Thursday night tilt with the Flames. "I came to Colorado because I thought they really liked me and would give me a chance. They have, and it's been a great few days."
