So, as I am slowly waking out of my swing-shift-induced slumber on Saturday morning I hear "YES!, The red team scored!" Then there was quite a bit of fake skating around the living room followed by some more cheering for the red team.
Now, as you probably know, the "red team" that my four year old was cheering for was the Detroit Red Wings during the NHL Network's replay of their preseason victory over Toronto on Friday night.
Now, I am not the type to push my son in the directions that I would like to see him go, I want him to like the things he wants to like and be what he wants to be, I'm just lucky that he likes hockey as I get to watch it instead of Nick Jr. However, his favorite color is red, and anyone who has ever been near a four year old knows that their likes and dislikes are driven by color, and the things that Dad likes....
So my question is this; Should the hatred I have for the Red Wings be passed along to my son in the form of not-so-subtle comments like "The Red team killed Santa" and "You shouldn't root for the red team because(insert any terrible thing about them that stops just short of giving a four year old nightmares)?
So, what say you? Teach hate, or let a no-good Red Wing fan sleep in my house?
