I respectfully request the community's consideration of a proposal to amend certain aspects of grammatical usage on the site and grammatically denigrate things that we individually and collectively find to be icky.
Capitalizing a word mid sentence is based on whether it is a "proper noun". To my mind, nouns such as "red wing," bertuzzi or anything to do with the cult of the winged wheel (COWW) are, in fact, improper. Consequently, they should never be capitalized.
Exceptions can and should be made when improper nouns become attached as part of the name of a proper noun such as Red Wing Dave, just like "mile," "high" and "stadium" are capitalized when joined together.
Some of you may be offended by, for example, jimmy howard, and find such blasphemy unforgivable. I submit that individual items are often so revered that they transcend the recognition commonly conferred on lesser objects in the same category. For this reason, the Bible is capitalized, but not italicized, because, um. . . it's the Bible. Feeling that jimmy howard has any need of capitals is an insult to his howardness.
I invite you to join me in my quixotic quest (extra points for alliteration with a "q"?) but hold no enmity towards those with quiet qualms about subverting traditional grammatical constructs.
