Did anyone else notice that in 2 games Liffiton has been able to outscore Quincey. Kyle needs to trade in his ‘BMF’ wallet for a ‘LB’ (Little Bitch) one.

I would like to submit Form 38J of the American Athletic Nickname Registry Code in regard to revocation of the nickname BMF from one Kyle Quincey. Attached to Form 38J is also a multi-state permanent restraining order on behalf of one Craig Anderson to keep Kyle Quincey at least five inches from him at all times as well as a cease and desist order on behalf of one Joe Sacco to prevent Kyle Quincey from standing in any orientation that would create an angle of deflection toward the Colorado Avalanche net with his skate blade.

Sorry, couldn’t squeeze in a column to track visor choices.
Pffft. What good is this damn thing, then?
Bitch, give me your lunch money.
Oddly enough
There’s a story floating around about Brodeur saying that Ovechkin had an advantage because of his mirrored shield because the goalies couldn’t read his eyes. And I imagine if I was on Twitter, the keyword #visor would definitely be trending right now.
But if Brodeur is right, I"m recommending these helmets for all Avs players:

’coz knowing is half the battle.
2010-2011 Colorado Avalanche: pretty good at hockey since they can't get into the bars yet.
Mirrored visors are now banned because of that perceived advantage. Have been for the past couple of seasons. That’s why Ovi now uses the tinted visor instead. I’m a goalie. And I think that the mirrored visor is kinda cool. If he can play with it, more power to him.
I also think that players should be able to have whatever curve on their stick that they’d like. The rules to restrict such curves were made to keep pucks down in days when players – and even goalies went without head protection. But in this day and age, I don’t think that it should matter as much. If a player chooses to have a big boomerang of a curve, it just takes away from his backhand shot and removes that too from his disposal. There’s going to be a point where there’s a trade off.

Um, no. First of all they are both LH shooters, secondly they do not play complementary styles, finally, Liles is much better with O’Byrne, might be better with Larsson (if we draft him), and Wilson will lose his job to Gaunce.

What sticks out to me is how much Jones and Duchene have played together and how little they’ve managed to score. Jones is a good player with a great shot, but he just doesn’t seem to gel with Duchene’s fleet-footed, deek-em-out approach to everything. There’s no reason those two can’t do some serious damage, but so far nothing.
Not sure if Duchene or Jones should make adjustments, or both. Whatever they’re doing right now isn’t really getting it done, though.
Mile High Hockey: Significantly better than the experts predicted, just like the Avalanche.
And also Galiardi hasn’t been tearing it up out there, either, despite playing with two of the best forwards in the league right now. Would it hurt to switch Gally and Jones up for a little while? See how they play with different centers? Just a thought.
Mile High Hockey: Significantly better than the experts predicted, just like the Avalanche.
I’d like to see that. I always thought of Jones as an awesome 3rd liner , same goes for Gali. I wouldn’t mind a switch.
The Avs are just so thin on LW it couldn’t hurt. Gally and Jones are probably equally skilled anyway.
Mile High Hockey: Significantly better than the experts predicted, just like the Avalanche.
I like the Stastny and Jones duo and the Duchene and Hejduk duo. Also: Jones as an awesome 3rd liner? He led the team in goals with 28? Those are top six numbers.

If there’s one major hole in Duchene’s game, it’s that he doesn’t find chemistry with wingers easily thus far. His style of play seems less adaptable to those around him. And I completely agree, while Jones hasn’t been terrible on Duchene’s wing, the pairing hasn’t been good either. Same for Duchene and Yip.
I think that’s the biggest pain the team has felt from Mueller departure: he had superb chemistry with Duchene. Jones doesn’t have anything particularly wrong with his skill set, but his game is centered around energy more than heady play. Duchene needs those guys that are at least thinking the game at the same pace as him, if not playing it at that pace. :)
A line I would love to see tried at some point: Duchene – RoR – Hejduk (Galiardi 3rd line center). That’s a situation that could really play to Duchene’s strengths. I also think Hishon, at least by the games I’ve manged to see, sounds like the kind of heady player that Duchene will find great chemistry with. We’d sure as hell need to put someone big on that other wing though, yikes.

Like everyone else, I love Winnik’s play, but I just don’t see him as a 2nd liner. I would rather ‘drop’ Stewie from the first line, put Duke back up on Stazzer’s wing, and let CGDS protect the ‘kids’.
Thanks Joe...
Yip could bring the pain.
2010-2011 Colorado Avalanche: pretty good at hockey since they can't get into the bars yet.
I’ve yet to see him actually bring much pain, plus he’s not exactly had great chemistry with Duchene in the past. That same “not a heady player” thing, I think.
"I’m predicting 50pts in the NHL for Hensick next season. Anyone want to put $20 on it?" - DetAvs, Jun 18, 2010 3:45 AM EDT
I feel that Jones, Galliardi, and Yip are all about generating offensive chances off forechecking pressure and fast transitions. Pretty much they are best when the other team has the puck; they force the turnover, and create the quick scoring chance. Duchene is about puck possession and generating chances from offensive pressure. I see shades of Forsberg in this, but Duchene doesn’t have Foppa’s vision of the ice (who does?). Dutchy uses speed and quickness to pull the defense out of shape before dishing. He needs players who can anticipate the where and when and find the holes and passing lanes. I think that’s why the Mueller/Duchene/Hejduk line worked so well last year.
Detroit is peopled entirely by slovenly ill-informed troglodytes, excepting of course the few Avalanche fans who are victims of unfortunate circumstance.

Aside from the Duke and Mueller, the two players in the organization you may be describing are Hishon and Stoa. Before you bust out laughing hear me out. People look at Stoa, see a big body and think “Power Forward,” or “CGDS Jr.” But Stoa’s game is more about positioning than brute force, although he can and does use his size down low. He needs a center who can create plays, though, and Duchene does just that.

Stoa has one assist in 10 games with the Monsters. I think both the Avs and Stoa have given up on the situation, and it’s time for him to consider barber college.

At least one was a second round pick, and one’s a 3rd. I don’t want to call them busts (most 2nds and 3rds never play a game in the NHL), but man. The Avs had a lot of vested interest in these guys and they didn’t work out.

So given all the defensemen who played this year who do you think will be the defensive pairs and the 7th D-man for next season if you had to guess. Here is possibilities barring trades and guys being resigned.
We have:
Johnson, Wilson, Liles, O’Byrne, Quincey, Holos, Cumiskey, Gaunce, Hunwick, Liffiton, Elliot and Barrie. Also possibly Larsson if we draft him and possibly Koci if they moved him to defense.
I wouldn’t count on Barrie and Elliott making the team out of camp. I’d like to see them get some time in Erie before we throw them to wolves. My guess:
Johnson-Quincey
Liles-O’Byrne
Wilson-Hunwick
Holos
Gaunce,, Liffiton, Elliott, Barie and Larsson, if drafted, all start in Lake Erie.
Now, I’m not saying that is necessarily what I want the pairings to be, but this is my best guess for what the Avs will do.

Hunwick sucks, Gaunce and Chouinard are better choices at this point. On top of which Elliott will pull a Shattenkirk next year, he’ll be called up due to an injury and play so well he’ll never go to Cleveland again.

It makes me wonder if the Avs will let Hunwick walk and go with the younger rookies. Maybe they have / will already write next season off. If they want to try and make something good, I expect them to re-sign hunwick [as opposed another FA dman].
Thanks, Joe... Thanks, Peter.... Thanks, Adam....
The big question right now is the draft, I’m guessing our #2 pick is a starter next year, if it’s Larsson then Hunwick is our #8 or 9 defenseman. Let’s trade him, somebody needs a capable PMD.

What we think should be is not necessarily what the Avs will do. I agree that Gaunce is a better choice. i haven’t seen Chouinard enough to make an assessment on him. Regardless, I still think the Avs will re-sign Hunwick.

Maybe something like:
Johnson-O’Byrne
Liles-Wilson
Quincey-Holøs/Guance/Hunwick/Elliot/Barrie
Johnson, Liles, Quincey and Holøs are all signed through next season. Guance the season after (12-13).
RFA:
Cumiskey
Hunwick
O’Byrne
Wilson
UFA:
Liffiton
Belle
Koci’s a UFA, but if they re-sign him it will likely be as a foward/enforcer

I think Koci increased his chances of being resigned greatly because of showing he is a passable defenseman in a pinch. They can resign him as a power(less) forward/fighter(Peter McNeeley esque) and when injuries mount they can use him as an eighth defenseman.
If he’s re-signed it will be for his “versatility”. He held his own on defense, but not sure he did anything to warrant being a full time D-man.
Datsyuk may have done it first, but he learned it from Peter Forsberg.

My guess is that they won’t get Larsson, either through stupidity or Edm’s. That in mind, I want:
Quincey – EJ
Liles – RoB
Gaunce – Elliot
Wilson
AHL: Cumiskey, Barrie, Holos and such. Hunwick traded for low pick of some sort.
I actually expect:
Quincey – EJ
Liles – RoB
Hunwick – Wilson
Cumiskey
Gaunce, Elliot, Barrie, Holos, etc to AHL. this team has too big a love affair with tiny speedy defenders to admit their mistake on Hunwick. sadly.

I also agree that I don’t think that management will admit a mistake on Hunwick. But, I don’t want to see a line up that features both him and Cumiskey.
Liles and RoB showed some chemistry. But, I think that in the long run, RoB is really a 5th defenseman that has been playing top 4 minutes.

Cumiskey, even healthy, is NOT an NHL defensemen. He has ZERO skills besides speed
Are you suggesting coconuts migrate?
And that speed is not what it used to be.

I agree about RoB. I’d like to see Larsson paired with Liles. RoB with Gaunce. Holos or Wilson as 7th. When Elliott and/or Barrie is ready, I’d hope Gaunce would be ready to take over for RoB, pair Gaunce and Elliott/Barrie and trade RoB. His untimely penalties make him less valuable as a 7th in my opinion than Holos or Wilson.
