Olympic Open Thread: February 16

Today is the Olympic debut for our boy Paul Stastny and the rest of this years US mens hockey team. While many of you Canadian Avs fans may have no real rooting interest in Team USA, we can all root for Stastny to have a good showing. The mid-day start time may keep a lot of people from being able to watch but several streams should be available. NBC will be airing a live stream. For those with TV access the game will be on USA (right after Curling).
I don't know what is more obvious, Miller starting in net for USA or Anderson starting in the next (and every) Avalanche game. Jonas Hiller will be in net for the Swiss team. Defenseman Mark Streit, along with Hiller, are the only NHLers on the Swiss team. While this may look like an easy win for Team USA, the NBC preview has a warning.
The Americans are not taking the Swiss lightly. They have scouted the exhibition games the Swiss have played in the run-up to the Olympics, as well as last year's meeting in the World Championships, a 4-3 OT loss in the second round of the tournament.
But, they understand that the Swiss will have the advantage of having played and practiced together as a team for the better part of the past week, while the Americans had a grand total of one practice together.
My prediction: While Hiller and Streit may keep the game close, the US team has too much firepower to defend. 4-1 US win.

Swiss team seems to have the better chemistry but the US team seems faster. Parise and Kane didn’t know how to help Stastny on those first few shifts.

Beggs-Smith’s company writes Malware, viruses, and spyware, to infect peoples computers and gather their personal info. Im sure he makes money at it. Its the type of thing where you get a virus and they say they will remove it for 39.95$, but its really hard to get off any other way.

Landslides are scary. I was in the South Pacific and there was a smaller one than this, but that was enough for me. The next day driving around there were whole roads missing. It was pretty intense and this one seemed far more significant than the one I saw!

So an awesome thing happened on my home from class earlier
I’m on the highway, listening to the 2nd period. Canada scores making it 1-0, so I start honking my horn.
Couple seconds later, guy in front of me starts honking his horn. As well, a trucker next to me starts honking his.
When Canada makes it 2-0, I start honking again. This time, almost right right I do, both guys from before, and another two cars around me, all start honking.
Once I got off the highway I glanced at the trucker from earlier, and he’s there looking at me smirking and shrugs his shoulders. It didn’t seem like he was actually listening, but he obviously knew what was going on.

Looks like there will be a blowout after all!
All these penalties have been insane, you can really tell how hard it is to adjust to Olympic rules whether you’re from the NHL or Europe.
Yeah, watching this game, the U.S. will be in some pretty big trouble if they play as sloppy against Canada as they did today…

I don’t think the Swiss are playing as terribly as Norway has but those odd man rushes need to be controlled. I think the guys know that though, hopefully they’ll be able to work on that in the short time they are able to practice.

Yeah, as we discussed above the first period it seemed like they were holding the stick too tight and were looking for pretty goals rather than just putting the puck on net. They definitely worked that out of their system.

It’s like only half of the stylesheet is loading for me.

It is crazy how much smaller the women’s hockey players look on the ice. I know that it’s kind of a “no duh” thing, but i can’t believe how noticeable the difference in size is.
