I really have to stop reading Dater's blog

Okay, so specific players' names aside, this is such a Dater thing to do and typlifies why he bugs me so much...

Star-divide

I’m not going to sit and dump on other D-men here, by comparison. This is more about me saying Quincey has too much talent to be sitting. Quincey has been a minus-2 in the last six games he’s played, but, geez, John Liles was a minus-2 the other night against Vancouver and played the next night. (emphasis mine)

I'm not going to dump on him or make comparisons or do anything shallow like that but you know they shouldn't have put that one guy in the press box cuz that other guy sucks WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more than he does!!!!

What a fucking hypocrite liar douchebag idiot.  I just can't pick my adjective noun.

(and I call myself an English teacher.)

You would be spot on with all four.

Question for the english teacher though: If “hypocrite”, “liar”, “douchebag”, and “idiot” are all adjectives then what is “fucking” in that sentence?

We all know how I feel about BMF...but

About Quincey…

1. I Didn’t realize Quincey had that many blocked shots.
2. I think that he has been bad for giveaways lately.
3. He has taken silly penalties at inopportune times.
4. I hope that Quincey can crack the lineup again and play well and control the puck a bit better.
5. I don’t want BMF to be benched next game.

Liles

1. At one point he was playing like crap and did deserve to sit one game. (Don’t hurt me ;) )
2. He; however, did not deserve to be treated the way he was by either Dater nor the organization.
3. Since he has been back he has played strongly.
4. I think Dater has caused irreparable damage to the fragile relationship that exists between a player and reporter. Were at one point Liles may have answered questions, joked around and whatnot now he seems to not want to answer him. (I don’t hold this against JML in the least if that’s the case) Perhaps Dater is upset by this?

5. Yes, JML, BMF and AD are all professionals, but sometimes feelings get hurt and the trust is gone.
6. I don’t think JML deserves to be sat in the next game.

At the risk of sounding like a total n00b

which, as far as MHH goes, I am, I have never seen in all of Internet Avlandia anybody referred to as BMF. I…just can’t figure out who this is supposed to be? Brett Mother Fucker (Clark)? Big Mother Fucker (which could be, Wilson…Hannan?…Footer?)

I’m confused. Someone help.

by Stazz21 on Mar 12, 2010 4:52 PM MST up reply actions

Bad Mother Fucker. Quincey. He got that name early in the season because he was demolishing people, and he got compared to Jules from Pulp Fiction.

God I haven’t seen him demolish anybody in a long, long time.

by xskatebakerrx on Mar 12, 2010 5:33 PM MST up reply actions

And that’s why he’s in Coach Joe’s doghouse, because Sacco hasn’t seen it in a long time, either.

And that’s what pisses me off about Quincey – that inconsistency. Pissed me off about a former Avs player, too, who you knew had talent but chose not to use it every game. That shit may fly in soccer or the NBA, but not in a league where 99 percent of the players work their asses off every night.

I just read a quote, and I can’t remember who said it, but it went like this- “the easy part is getting here, the hard part is staying”. You gotta work your ass off at the NHL level

Exactly

Quincey is being sat for one reason only: he is not playing to his ability. We have all seen BMF. We all want BMF. We haven’t had BMF in a long, long time. It’s time to get him back. Sacco sits Quincey so Quince can find him. Reasonable, right?

But this is what angers me so much about Dater’s take on the situation. He said over and over that Liles was being scratched because he wasn’t playing up to his ability and Sacco was sending him a message: play the way we know you can or you won’t play. This is no different than Quincey (other than the fact that Dater likes Quincey.)

I won’t even read Dater. Can’t stand him. And trying to say that Quincey shouldn’t be benched is ridiculous. We’re not sending Quincey down to the AHL, he’s learning a lesson that he needs to play with his head again. Whatshisname velvet suit even said last night on the aftershow that Quincey’s play has been troubling lately.

Yes you do need to stop reading his blog

as I said before, he has to have a player to throw under the bus. This season it’s Liles; last season Budaj. He will defy all logic in his pursuit of persecuting that player. His bias makes it impossible for him to be objective.

I read Dater’s articles only to get the quotes from the coaches and team. I don’t give a rat’s ass what Dater’s opinion is about anything. I would rather get the opinion of people I feel have knowledge about hockey, and that would be the people here at MHH.

He’s probably pissed off about Budajs door opening ability and he has to take it out on someone.

That alone is enough to put Budaj in the Hall.

Hey, Quincey deserved to sit last game…he made the bonehead penalty vs. Detroit, and he wasn’t exactly setting the world on fire vs. Vancouver.

As far as benching Clark, sorry…I’m in favor of having a top 5 shot blocker IN THE LINEUP. Why not bench Hannan a few games? He’s been non-existent half the damn season, and everyone gives him a pass.

I think Hannan’s play has gone done simultaneously with Quincey’s, tho he’s still reliable ole Hobbit back there. I rarely have a problem with Hannan. He hasn’t been playing as bad as Liles was earlier, IMO. But what part of the Hannan-BMF pairing is responsible for either/both of their decline?

by NurseBeachie on Mar 13, 2010 9:28 AM MST up reply actions

Other than the unnecessary pot shot at JML, I pretty much agree with Dater here. Quincey hasn’t been playing as well as previously no doubt, but he hasn’t been the 7th worst defenseman on the team. By a long shot.

A reduction in ice time is probably appropriate, and would get the message across just as well. Quincey has been benched a couple times now, and it hasn’t worked at all. Some players respond to getting benched, some don’t. Quincey obviously doesn’t what good is benching him again?

As for who should sit, well Clark had the worst giveaway of the Florida game, and it came right in front of Andy. Clark blocks shots, but has at least onegiveaway every game that makes me want to vomit.

And I don’t agree with the assessment on Hannan at all. I think he’s playing just fine, and probably has been the Avs best defenseman since the Olympics. That might be saying something about the Avs defense since the Olympics (inconsistent), but Hannan has been just fine.

I didn’t realize Quincey has been benched then brought back in for a game(s) and then benched again. When did this happen?

I think we can also assume that Sacco had talked with Q before he sat him and that this wasn’t the first time he’s tried to light a fire under him.

Honestly, I wouldn’t go taking it personal.

The problem is two-fold – one, we have more than enough defenseman to go around, and two, all the defenseman have some weakness apparent in their game at times. Dater just went to JML because he’s meant to be an offensive defenseman but his scoring rate per 60 minutes of ice time (including powerplay time) is 7th best out of 8 defenseman (only Foote is behind him). Like it or not, that isn’t very good.

However, Liles is playing a lot stronger defense to compensate. Clearly, earlier in the season when he was getting lit up at even-strength but then playing really well on special teams was due to him still carrying an injury.

Does JML deserve to sit – not really. But then no one player sticks out like a sore thumb consistently. Sacco has a tough, but positive, dilemma on who to scratch night in and out (although if the eyes were pointed to next season, I would scratch the upcoming UFA’s).

I'm not taking it personally...I don't even know the guy

Look, my point in this post is not about whether or not Liles should or should not be benched or about his play or anything at all related to that. This has absolutely NOTHING to do with that.

My point is that Dater says he’s not going to “dump on other d-men in comparison” and then proceeds to do so and that he uses Liles as the person he dumps on. He has dumped on Liles all year long, justified or not, in a ridiculously extreme way. That he took this opportunity, despite just saying that he wouldn’t do so, to dump on him again is what makes me dislike him as a reporter so much. (FWIW, had he done this about Budaj or Hannan, his whipping boys last year, I would have reacted the exact same way.)

He easily could have made his argument about not benching Quincey doing what he said he was going to do: not compare Quincey to anyone else. The fact that he said he wouldn’t and then did is childish, unprofessional and unnecessary.
