Pretty cool interview, worth checking out. It's cut into multiple segments. Props to AD for posting it on his blog.

wow....

Sandie

Agreed.

Hard to say much more than that. . . Never thought I’d see the day. Anybody check the weather in hell? Actually, made me like/understand Lemeiux more. McCarty? Not so much.

I found it refreshing how upfront Lemiuex was about it all, about his role and who he was on the ice. “I planned to go out there and sucker punch him. I told Footer that’s what I was going to do. He smashed Footer into the glass, cut up his face. I was going to get him back for that. It was the code.” He knew it was illegal. He knew he’d get suspended. And he knew he was going to do it. The guy (I can’t remember who he did it to) knew it was coming. That was the game.

It was interesting how they both reacted to the way things are today and why they think there are so many problems, too.

very cool

I hated the way Shannahan clotheslined Roy during the brawl. What a prick that guy was.

I always thought McCarty cheapshoted Lemieux. He was engaged with someone else and sucker-punched Lemieux… Wings fans forgot this.

More observations about that piece. The interviewer needs to lay off the make up. He looked like Tammy Faye Baker with a bad haircut. He also annoyed me in his total focus on the hit on Draper and comparing Claude to Matt Cooke. Claude was an agitator and sometimes a dirty player, but he wasn’t a piece of shit like Matt Cooke. Sounds like Claude really reached out one time to McCarty when Claude was in Dallas …. I thought Mac was about ready to cry there. I wonder if it had to do with Mac’s alcoholism?

I still hate all of those fuckers wearing the wheel, including Draper and Maltby. But I hate McCarty slightly less now.

The interviewer needs to go back in time and not do the plastic surgery.

I also disliked the fact that interviewer did the whole “What’s up with Detroit?” but didn’t follow up with “What’s up with Colorado?” since both teams are opposite of where they were expected to be. Lame. And predictable.

They sure brushed over that situation in Dallas, huh? Didn’t even let Claude get out what he said to Mac. Interesting…

Oh, but there's more

How did McCarty not end up with extra penatlies and a suspension for jumping Claude in that brawl? He sucker punched him to begin with, but you’d think kneeing his head against the boards would have warranted at least a five-minute major and 2 games? I was in Ann Arbor during the summer of 1997 for a class. And I’m not kidding here, there was more discussion about that brawl than about the Wings finally winning the Cup. Much more.
