Turn Your Head and Cough: Avalanche Health Check Up

Stethoscope_250x251_medium

The Avs will get a boost of energy and depth back this Sunday as Cody McLeod (foot) and Ruslan Salei (torso) should return in Sunday's tilt against Anaheim.

Unfortunately, Ryan Wilson's status has been updated to "mild concussion". The rookie D-man suffered the injury (his second concussion of the season) in the bout against Jamal Mayers last Wednesday. He will be evaluated on a daily basis, but was able to work out off ice on Friday.

David Jones (knee), Brandon Yip (shoulder) and David Koci (hand) all skated before the Avs practice on Friday, but there is still no timetable for their returns - sorry Koci fans.

Good news for sure

Let’s see if we can stick Dr. Jones and Yippers in our lineup before the playoffs start.

That’s what I’m hoping for.

But aw man Koci is still hurt. I am SO upset with this news. ;]

I wouldn’t get too excited about Jones coming back before playoffs – or even in playoffs – guys. That’s an ACL. Skating rehab will go on for quite a while. Now Yip?? Yeah, he’s got a shot! Woooot!

Forever grateful that Joe Sakic isn't a douche bag like Brett Favre.

While I am happy they are getting healthy...

I especially don’t want to rush guys before the playoffs… despite the loss to the Lames, we are still in really good position to reach the postseason. I wouldnt want the guys to come back too early and be less than 100%, and lag for the rest of the year.

Thanks Joe...

I know you guys don’t want to hear this, but I am worried about the long-term health of Ryan Wilson.

2 concussions in one season…I think he needs to shut it down for the year. As someone who’s had about 5 or 6 concussions, it’s not the best of life to live. I don’t care how mild it is…it’s time to error on the side of caution here. We have enough D to get us through the season.

I have been thinking the same thing. Last night I said to myself, “First year and his career is already in jeopardy?” He definitely should be scratched until playoffs. I’m not sure Sacco will do it, but he should given the plethora of D we have.

I hope Sacco takes heed that for each concussion you suffer…you’re more likely to suffer another one.

I love the Mack Truck, but…if you want proof what concussion do to your career, just ask Deader.

The only game really affecting the Avs is the Kings (who currently lead the Isles 1-0). If the Kings go on to win they will pass the Avs by one point and they will have the same number of games.
The Preds passed the Avs tonight, but the Avs have two games in hand…one win and they are back in front.
Vancouver has come back to tie the Wings….hopefully the Canucks win in regulation (the Canucks winning really is the lesser of two evils).

by Pinchy The Lobster on Mar 20, 2010 10:17 PM MDT up reply actions

I understand “shitty”, I just disagree that tonight is “shitty”. It’s one game, it not like the Avs are now on the outside of the playoffs looking in.
Like I said there is only one game that actually affects what the Avs can do, that is the Kings game. The others really don’t matter if the Avs do what they need to do. Win and it doesn’t matter how much Nashville, Calgary, and Detroit win. LA on the other hand, only has to match what the Avs do in order to maintain the 5th spot, The Avs will have to one up them (of course beating the Kings in at least two of their three remaining match ups will certainly help the Avs get the edge).

Now the damn Red Wings scoring the GWG in OT against Vancouver with 0.02 seconds left in OT is a shitty kick in the teeth.

Playoff push is getting absolutely mad

Seems like every team in the race is finding a way to win (other than the Sharks). Detroit and Calgary are playing like very desperate teams, Nashville has the quietest 6-game win streak I’ve ever barely heard of, LA and Vancouver are consistently getting points, and Phoenix is straight-up invincible lately. Meanwhile the Avs are a middling .500 in their last ten, and that simply isn’t going to do in the wild, wild West. And to think, we could’ve been 11 points ahead of the Flames …

At least it isn’t the East though, where the contending teams are just trying to lose as few games as possible and hoping they don’t play the West or the top 4 anytime soon.

by wickediz on Mar 21, 2010 12:58 AM MDT up reply actions

Could last night have been any worse for the Avs? If so, not by much. Stupid stupid stupid overtime!

Anyway, we need to play with the same desperation as these other teams. I wouldn’t say we’re desperate (at least not yet), but if we don’t we’re going to get outplayed night in and night out.
