Calder race getting tight...
Tavares is now 6 points back of Duchene. True, he's played two more games, but the gap is certainly shrinking...and if he's broken out of his scoring slump, it could be a very tight race down to the end.
One has to think that if the scoring race is close between these two, than the easy fallback vote is to give the Calder to Tyler Myers, or even Jimmy Howard.
Duchene does have other intangibles on his side--his team is competing for the playoffs (this is an advantage over Tavares only), and he's been a great two way player, not just a scorer. He looks like a legitimate superstar out there--flying past opponents, making quick turns and dangles, and setting up great plays.
But the bottom line is, if he isn't at least a solid 7 points or so above the rest in rookie scoring when it's all said and done, I think the trophy may go to Myers.

According to all the “experts” it’s already over and Myers is going to win it.
I still think Duchene should win it, but Myers isn’t a bad choice either. If Howard wins it then the Evil Empires hold on the world is almost complete and we should all start running for the hills.

7 points wont do it imo…30 goals would but if Myers, a dman is only 7 points back and a solid +13 i would have to give it to him
I have seen many Buffalo highlights on NHL on the Fly but not many Buffalo games. What I’ve seen makes me wonder about Myers excellent +/- rating. Several games he’s turned the puck over in bad areas and then Miller makes a great save to bail him out. If Miller weren’t in Buffalo, would Myers have this good of a rating? Don’t get me wrong. He will be a star defenseman in the league soon but I think his defensive numbers have been helped out by Miller. His offense, well that’s mostly him. I’ve noticed he’s earned a few “secondary” assists where he wasn’t necessarily the guy that set up the play that got the goal. This is just nit-picking to get Duchene the vote. Duchene seems to set up more plays with his speed and skill and also be capable in his own end. But, if it weren’t for a certain goalie playing behind him, how bad of a +/- rating would Duchene have?
