Magic Number Update
Overall, a pretty good night for the Avalanche last night (although they failed to win one for jibbles). Phoenix, Nashville and Vancouver all lost. Unfortunately, Calgary won and they are just 4 back. The Avalanche need wins in order to create separation between themselves and the Flames and Wings. Oh, and the Blues should become everyone's 2nd-favorite team this evening, as they are playing Detroit.

Team that play Detroit are ALWAYS my 2nd favorite team (well, 2A anyway, since the Blackhawks will always be my 2nd favorite)
As for jibbles…it was a great team effort last night, they just couldn’t pull it out

It’s all Budaj’s fault, he couldn’t get the bench door open fast enough.

Despite that it’s making me a bit nervous, I am LOVING this Western Conference race for the playoffs right now and all the juxtaposition we’re seeing. It’s crazy what each game is doing to the standings.

I’d like it a lot more if 7 or 8 of the final 10 games weren’t against teams above us in the standings…

Disagree
Too nerve racking and it’s getting harder t clinch a playoff spot. What’s super lame is that with a win we are 3 pts behind Vancouver for the division yet we stand 2 pts behind 8th.

All this playoff stuff is SO gravy. I keep thinking about where we were last year and the feeling I got at the Kings game watching that whole series that led to Gali’s goal that sent it to OT and have decided to just enjoy the ride from here on out. I was lucky enough to be sitting 3rd row, right at the face off circle, with a perfect view of the whole thing and it was the pinnacle of the season for me. It defined it.
Watching the maturity of an 19-yr-old kid calmly hit a cross ice pass perfectly to a player whose performance skyrocketed once he joined the team; he then hammered a tape-to-tape to the young, but seasoned and often undervalued leader who amazingly battled his way in and around an opposing team who didn’t see it coming; then there was the goal made by a rookie redeeming himself after a heartbreaking moment earlier in the game, beating a solid defense and a goaltender who never thought the team would do it; the heart and soul team sent the game into a last second overtime, coming from behind once again, stunning and silencing the crowd.
This is our team. Underrated, filled with amazingly talented kids and veteran leaders, both young and old, who are buying into the vision of a hard working, fast moving, never-say-die game. They are leaps and bounds above what they were and the future is so incredibly exciting how can I feel anything but pride and anticipation for what’s to come?
But maybe that’s just me.

It ain’t just you, darlin’!
2009-2010 Colorado Avalanche - On the upside, there's only 9 more (regular season) games of Darcy Tucker left!
Almost every expert predicted we would be last in the West. We’ve already had a great season. Yes, I would love to see them make it to the playoffs, but more than that, I want to see them hang on to these young soon-to-be-stars and dominate next year. and the next year… Beachie, your ‘This is our team…’ paragraph is the eloquence I wish I had. Well said.
Updates for March 25th
Calgary falls to the Isle in regulation 2-3. With a game in hand the Avs have a chance to increase their lead to 8pts.
Chicago got annihilated by Columbus 8-3. Doesn’t Columbus know the are out of the playoffs?
Phoenix and Nashville go into OT and then the SO where the other O’Reilly brother had a nice goal against Bryzgalov. and then Legwand finishes it for a 4-3 Preds win. Preds move back ahead of the Avs who again have two games in hand.
(Wolski had a goal and an assist in the game for those calculating the Mueller/Wolski points trade)
LA loses to St Louis 1-3
San Jose and Dallas are just beginning.
