It was a pretty good night for the Avalanche, with the Kings and Flames losing in regulation. Nashville did win (in a shootout over Phoenix), but Calgary losing was key. It's basically a 9-team race in the Western Conference and any combination of 5 Colorado wins or 5 Calgary losses will punch the Avs' postseason ticket.
The only game tonight that really matters for the Avalanche is Minnesota at Detroit. A Detroit win will pull them even with Colorado in the standings, although the Avs will still be in 7th due to the tiebreaker regardless of what happens. It's also worth noting that, for perhaps the first time all year, no Western team has more games in hand than Colorado
