RW problems next year?

So I've been wondering about next year. What are we going to do at RW? we have Stewart, Hejduk, Yip, Jones, and Svatos. What are we going to do? I can't see Yip or Jones playing third or fourth line duties. Is it possible that we have too much depth?

Easy.

Lines look like this:

Gali – SoS – Stewie
Ferris – Dutchy – Duke
Yip (moving to LW) – Radar – Dr. Jones
Highlander – Yeller – Hendricks

Stoa/Durno

Dustbin of History – Svatos, Tucker, Koci (Clark, for that matter)

Methinks scratch Yelle and Hendricks and add Porter and Hensuck.

As much as I like the guy, I think Hensick is an AHL lifer.

Vehemently disagree on Fat TJ.

I would like to see Porter though. Especially if he’ll give us some LW action.

I like Hendricks. And I think he played well tonight.

but that 3rd line of all right handers is pretty funny too.

True. Makes me all the more anxious to see Yip & Jones return. I’d love to see one of them on the 2nd PP point a la Mueller. Yip quarterbacked the BU power play for several years from the point and has a pretty heavy shot.

wasn’t Radar a scoring threat when he was paired with jones? I could see them back together next year.

Indeed. Here’s hoping that Jone’s progress didn’t regress. ACL isn’t a small thing even with medical advances.

I honestly think this team will bring back tucker at about 1.25 mill. I don’t want him back but they seem to love him. Does highlander have to start playing better to stay on this team next year? He has been invisible most of the year, I know he was hurt, but that was a couple of months ago.

I think they will replace Tucker with Yelle. Hometown favorite, can teach the kids stuff, personal connection to the brass, etc.

Thanks Joe...

by mfured20 on Mar 8, 2010 4:06 PM MST up reply actions

if that were true, I would think they’d be phasing him out. But he’s still getting about 10 minutes a game. I don’t think management looks at him the sameway that we all do. He hasn’t been a healthy scratch all year despite falling once or twice or more a game, which is really a big sign—to me at least.

Beer: The cause of, and solution to, all of life's problems.

by An Unmitigated Disaster on Mar 8, 2010 4:18 PM MST up reply actions

Use the tool as long as you have him. I think they would like to start benching him, but that would send the wrong signal to the kiddies. I think just not re-signing him is a much smoother way to break his association with the team, instead of painting him as obsolete. Let him go with dignity, and try to find another position.

If they do want to re-sign him, I would suggest more like a mil a year, and let him know that his role will be even more diminished. Everyone knows that he’s not doing shit on the team this year, even he knows that. He has to face the facts, and we have to face the facts. He. is. not. getting. it. done. I think that will be a big factor, bigger than his mentoring of the youngsters. But the issue is doing it with dignity, not like Bruno and Lappy.

Thanks Joe...

by mfured20 on Mar 8, 2010 4:24 PM MST up reply actions

I don’t want him back but I don’t see the team treating him like that now, I think that they think he’s important to the team for the bottom 2 lines.

Kindly cut out your tongue, burn it to ash and scatter it to the four winds for even speaking such heresy!

mfured is right, Yeller brings just as much if not more experience, mentoring capacity, etc. as Tucker (how many times is your name on the Cup again Darcy? No, not your Snoopy, sippy cup, THE CUP. Yeah, that’s what I thought.) and Yeller doesn’t suck, which is just kind of a bonus.

On the downside, Darcy does have better hair than Yeller.

I refer to my reasons above, especially the healthy scratch thing. If he starts to get scratched down the stretch then I’ll start believing. Until then I’m not getting my hopes up.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want him back, I’m just reading the tea leaves and think the team doesn’t doesn’t think that he sucks as much as he really does actually suck.

it scares me that I might be right. But in this case I’m going to prepare myself to be disapointed that the avs resign him and then be pleasantly surprised if they don’t.

If the Avs resign him, we’re fine. He’s gone. If they re-sign him, however, things will suck.

I think that breaks the space time continium, and you need to mix in Stewie in there somewhere, he can’t be a healthy scratch every game.

I bet he's got more trophies than the pope and Wayne Gretzky combined!

I’m basing this list on the assumption that Jones will be injured 4 games into the season as usual so I’m just giving him his playing time at the start

That I read this title and thought “No, the Red Wings are a problem every year.”
