Hey There Avalanche

Alright, here’s the score. The rest of the league sees a team with a hellish final stretch that’s managed just 1 win in its last 8, has allowed 32 goals in that span of time, and is just barely hanging onto a playoff spot after having battled for the division not even a month ago. The pundits would love to see themselves proven right, that the clock has struck midnight on our Cinderella team, Anderson has turned back into a pumpkin, and our ugly stepsisters in Detroit and Calgary have us down for the count.

We know better. We’ve watched this team all year, we’ve watched them grow and struggle and persevere through the second most man-games lost in the league. We saw them pelt Greiss with 45 shots and Kipper with 35 lately, in two of their best games all year. The Avs of October are back, and they’re about to surprise the hell out of everyone once again.

So I’ve written a song for them, to the tune of Hey There Delilah. And it goes like this:

Hey there Avalanche,
What’s it like in Mile High City?
You’ve been winning games all year,
Scoring huge goals and playing gritty
You’re our new
Heroes in burgundy and blue
We believe in you

Hey there Avalanche,
You guys never disappoint
Love watching Liles thread a pass to
Mueller’s rocket from the point
The power play’s
Amazing talent on display
Blows us away

Boys, bring home Cup number three
Boys, bring home Cup number three
Boys, bring home Cup number three
Boys, bring home Cup number three

Hey there Avalanche,
We know that our team’s for real
Foote’s leadership and Wilson’s hitting,
Quincey’s guts, Cumiskey’s wheels
Are number one
These Avs will never be outgunned
You’ll get it done

Hey there Avalanche,
We know that you’ll save the day
Yeah, Andy making sprawling pad saves
Always takes our breath away
And Budaj too
Great goaltending will see us through
We know it’s true

Boys, bring home Cup number three
Boys, bring home Cup number three
Boys, bring home Cup number three
Boys, bring home Cup number three

And though tonight’s lineup has no
Forsberg or Roy or Super Joe
The kids are destined for the Hall of Fame
We’ve got Yip’s hustle, Cody’s heart,
Duchene’s sick hands, O’Reilly’s smarts
That silver cup will surely bear your names
With Stewart’s strength and Hejduk’s shot,
Stazz feeding T.J. in the slot,
The league will never ever be the same
Just play the game

Hey there Avalanche
Four Three Two more SIXTEEN wins will take you there
But no matter how this turns out
You’re already beyond compare
We can attest
Better than anyone could've guessed
Fans everywhere have been impressed
Thanks Sacco, Kono, and the rest
‘Cause you’re the best

Boys, bring home Cup number three
Boys, bring home Cup number three
Boys, bring home Cup number three
Boys, bring home Cup number three

(Stick tap to UZ for the new and improved chorus!)
