Monday, May 3 NHL Playoffs-Round 2 Open Thread

PrintThe playoffs continue tonight with two games.
First up is the Flyers/Bruins Game 2 with Marc Savard and the Bruins holding the 1-0 advantage in that series. That kicks off at 7 pm Eastern. Then a Western Conference Round 2 matchup between the MHH-favorite Vancouver Canucks (and their horrible fans) and the Chicago Blackhawks (led by Joey Q's mustache). The Canucks and the hairy Italian in goal hold a one-games-to-none lead in that series which resumes at 9 pm Eastern. Both games are being carried by Versus. This means you'll get to see all of the Bruins/Flyers game and maybe 2/3rd's of the Nucks/Hawks. Yeah exclusive broadcasting rights!!!

I was trying to make predicitions about events where there is some UN-certainty involved. Then again, saying that the refs are going to screw up is like saying the sun will rise tomorrow.
Actually, the Red Wings paranoia is well founded. Everyone does hate them and their fans.

What serious blunder happend in the Hawks/Nucks game?
I didn’t see anything too blatant and neither Nucks Misconduct or Second City Hockey has fans complaining about the refs.
I went to a fight the other night and a hockey game broke out.

Colorado Avalanche: Back to the playoffs!
I watched the Lucic goal last night and jokingly said, “Damn, about two and a half early.” Then when Luongo went to the bench with the Hawks up 3-2, I was getting nervous.
I made 3 predictions here, and the third one about the refs I figured was a dead certain lock. Funny that one was the one I blew entirely.

Move to Canada. The only postseason hockey I have missed this year has been due to OT games. CBC has its flagship Hockey Night in Canada leading the way and TSN has been making huge strides in taking hockey over from them. What that means is that the die hard hockey fan doesn’t miss a second when you tune in from north of the border.
Word is the broadcasting rights are up for a new contract in a year or two and that ESPN might actually make a move this time around..hopefully.

A real network like NBC?
Not so long ago my Olympic Curling Festival coverage was interrupted by groups of men using their oddly shaped brooms to actually push these tiny curling stones across the ice toward a target backed by a big net. Unfathomable! I sent them a sternly worded letter.

If we end up with a Boston / Montreal conference finals, I won’t be sure who to root for.

It’s a tough call, for sure, but I’d give the edge to Montreal. Why? Because they would have done the entire hockey world a gigantic favor by eliminating not only Ovechkin, but Crosby too! Can’t ask for much more than that.
