Still Nothing.
Two more top-six left wingers are off the boards today, neither going to Colorado. Alexander Frolov went to the Rangers while Alexei Ponikarovsky went to the Kings. Either player would have filled a need for the Avalanche and a reasonable salary ($3 million and $3.2 million respectively). And both signed one-year deals, which means no long-term contractual obligations to get in the way of all those pesky future contract renewals (or even current ones like, say, for Chris Stewart or Peter Mueller).
Maybe there is something bigger coming down the pipeline...but we're quickly running out of bigger fish to pursue.

Such a quiet offseason for both our teams. Seems like it’s starting to wear on us all.
Bleargh.

I’m glad we didn’t try to sign either. Poni is just way too streaky. Only thing that I would have liked about him on our team is that he can stand in front of the net and screen the goalie really well, but I feel like Stewart and Gali will continue to try to do that. Frolov…. he just seems to whiny and that he feels entitled to a 1st line LW position. He sure can dangle, though. I’d rather not sign any of the current FA unless it’s for insurance on the D and an extra 3rd/4th line forward. I think Gali will improve greatly next year and am excited to see his improved game. I’d be happy if we traded for a top LW as long as we aren’t giving up core players. Otherwise, I’m fine with staying with the current lineup.

The avalanche do know they can do something during the offseason right? Dwight knows the rules right?

As it stands now,
It’s not a matter of “can” do something.
It’s a matter of “have” to do something.
We’re still below the cap floor.
I really hope that we don’t make up the 7-8 mil we need with just Stewie and Ferris. They’re good, but not that good.
Hell, for all we know, maybe Forsberg is trying out?
Ok, everyone forget I said that. I just lost my mind for a moment….Please don’t hurt me…

Didn't you get the memo?
We don’t sign players anymore.
It’s the Anti-Lacroix strategy.
NFL votes on Rams purchase here this week I think. KSE is surely waiting to see how the dominoes line up on ownership before they start committing $.
I think you may have hit the nail on the head. I hope there is someone interesting still available when the dust settles.

You defiantly did not want Poni he was horrible last season with the Pens. He is not worth the 3.2 that the kings are paying him
Poni...pfft!
I agree, he didn’t do anything last year. The guys we already have are better. Let’s grab Neal, or Wheeler if his arbitration ruling is too high for the B’s.

I’d also paying attention to the Bobby Ryan situation.
I spent more effort eating a pudding than Tyler Arnason skated last year.
And the impending Parise situation
It’s gonna happen

Every time I see Urbom I think “Unborn” and I think about how it’s pretty bad practice to trade for guys who haven’t even been conceived yet.
But I like it—it’d be hard to sell to both Stan and Lou but may be necessary for Lou and a very good value proposition for the Avs. I think it’d be a steal for the Avs since I think a good, stay-at-home defensive prospect could mean more for the Avs in a couple of years than Kovalchuk means to the Devils.

The only player short enough is Cumiskey and he can’t grow a beard
What's the difference between a duck?
I was thinking more about the “unborn” thing. Trading away someone’s first born to receive the Stanley Cup (spun gold)?
Are you volunteering you’re own kid then? I’d love to see the Avs raise a cup and all, but turning over a newborn to Bettman and his murder of demons just seems kind of not-worth-it.

I can’t see Lou giving up more prospects, they don’t have a bevy of prospects. Their pool is both small and untalented. He’s given up prospects and top picks in recent years, I wouldn’t think that trend would continue. They only have three or four guys that could make the NHL and contribute. He is exactly what we’re looking for so good find thedoctor. I would think we’d have to give up a little bit more to get him, Lou is usually pretty good with trades. Urbom was a third round pick, so maybe Rolston + Urbom = Cumiskey + 3rd or 4th. That might happen to give them some cap relief and put us over with a good mentor.
by Greendaygoal on Jul 29, 2010 12:59 AM MDT up reply actions
Problem is...
We have neither of those picks. And Cumiskey could probably fetch Urbom anyway. Rolston subtracts from his value with his 35+ behemoth. Lou’s gonna have to take advantage of Tambo or he’s gonna have to "let Rolston retire in Europe.’ There’s really no moving Rolston without giving up something big. No owner’s gonna actively seek to spend $10 M/ 2 years on a player worth $4/2 years
What's the difference between a duck?
Urbom – sounds like an anagram for something else
From the point – Bomur (drop the big one on the PP)
In the defensive end – Robum (takeaway specialist)
When he plays badly – Bu mor (let him know what you think)
