Duchene statistically in line for no Soph slump & Howard sucks
Interview with Dobber (good twitter follow @DobberHockey). He did some research on sophomore slumps based on player age since the lockout and to paraphrase, "In the safe group - Duchene". He also lays the hurt on Howard in comparison to Rask which is always great to see. Some positive spin on Mueller and some concern about Yip.

I hate to say it, but I think Yip may have played over his head a bit last season. Don’t get me wrong, the kid is good but…
Duchie rocks, has always rocked, and always will rock. There, ‘nuff said.
Mueller really had no where to go but up. I think he’ll be better this season.
Howard is going to implode and I am going to enjoy every second of it. Here’s looking at 10th place for the Wings!

maybe Yip has some Deader spirit in him. I can see him filling that scrappy second line wing role

All Deader comparisons should be to Chris Stewart.

All Deader comparisons shouldbe to Chris Stewartcease and fucking desist this intstant because there’s no one on the Avs now, or in their line of sight, who could be the combination enraged bad-ass power forward/speedy 20 goal scorer that Deader was. For all intents and purposes, he was in the 20/100 club for 5 seasons in a row.

I think Stewart and Deadmarsh are pretty similar style players. Stewart needs a little refining, but he could be as good as Deadmarsh.

I'm afraid I agree with Dan here
Stewart doesn’t play often enough with the passion that Deader always played with. I can’t think of a guy on the Avs now who is as heart and soul as he was. Gali comes much closer than Stewart in that regard.

While an implosion may seem like a bad thing in this universe, let it be known that an implosion on this particular stellar plane shall create an explosion in another dimension that shall give birth to a whole new existence.
For Howard so loved the world that I shall give a 3.78 GAA so that all creation may be born anew in another place and time.
Everything that ever was and ever shall be, I am.

Are you saying he’ll become Osgood Jr? Does that mean we’ll have to listen to fans of Les Ailes talk about his guaranteed excepted to the Hall of Fame?

You know they are all experts. They have seen lots of replay since they’re all jobless.

I agree about Yip, the only thing is that I can’t help but feel that regardless of whether he was playing over his head this past season, his production this coming season will still be greatly augmented by the awesome centers we have right now. Especially considering the overall youth of the team, I don’t see him falling off too badly; they’re all in this together…I mean think about it, even if he’s on the third line, he’ll probably be with Radar and Gali. That line just has so much freakin’ charisma, I almost wanna hug it!
…But maybe I should keep my fingers crossed, just in case?

Sorry, just wanted to say that. I agree that he could be a solid 3rd line addition. We have solid 3rd liners, we’re just looking for a top LW/consistency. Otherwise we’d be pretty solid if unspectacular up front.
What's the difference between a duck?
Exactly. Though we will see that Dutchy makes most everybody’s numbers look better (and Yip scored many of his points last year skating with Dutchy), a line of 3 of the following: Jones, Yip, Radar, Gali is gonna hang some points on opposing keepers. Mark my words!
Colorado Avalanche Offseason Strategy - Please wake us in October
Yip I can see going places. Jones, not so much. I’m just not sold on the kid. Looks good when he plays, but he seems to be another Leopold, talented but pretty much a permanent injured player. Need to start calling him Glass Joe.

I really hope this is his year. I would love to eat these words.
Me no like da Wings.
That’s like saying SOS is injury prone because he blocked a shot with his arm. Jones had a guy fall onto his leg and it popped the wrong way.
I never had a serious injury through 15 years of soccer (much of it at a very competitive level), and all of a sudden I lean the wrong way during an indoor coed league and tear my ACL, meniscus, and sprain my MCL… shit happens but calling someone a permanent injured player because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time? No way.
They say the Avs look like smurfs when they wear these jerseys... I just don't see it.

My bad, what the heck was I thinking. He really tore up those 62 games these past two seasons. Please read what I said.

Did I go to far with the Glass Joe remark. Sure. Is it unrealistic to think he’s injury prone? No.

The only rookie I have complete confidence in as a sophomore is Duchene. I have really low expectations for the rest of them… except maybe O’Reilly. And I consider Galliardi a sophomore too… I think Yip will be the biggest disappointment.

I feel pretty good about Duchene as well. Radar and Gali will no-doubt play really well defensively in their 3rd line role, but may not put the goals in.

I get that. But you also said
pretty much a permanent injured player.
I’m not doing any sort of attack at you personally, I just think just that it’s way too early to make that argument. My point is that his injuries have been flukes. They’re not the reoccurring groin injuries Svatos had every other week, or the constant foot surgeries Foppa’s had over the last few years, or the lingering concussions of Lindros.
It’s the same for when people instantly started labeling Hishon as an injury concern. Yes he had a knee injury this last year, but his other major injury is a broken foot from blocking a shot… that’s no different than a puck to the face. It’s hockey.
They say the Avs look like smurfs when they wear these jerseys... I just don't see it.

Tavares will be very good. Hedman will be very good. Duchene will win the Hart.

As well as a few other major trophies first.
Dear Colorado Avalanche: Thank you for the excitement, see you in October.
As well as a few other major trophies first.
Oh, the Richard and the Ross for sure. And the Cup. But the Hart first for my money. He played in the east it would’ve been the Calder first. No knock on Myers, he was fabulous in his rookie year; but MD led a team that, let’s face it, was the surprise success story of the year. Only my opinion of course, and wisely or not they don’t give me a vote on these things.

Teams will be game-planning for him this year, and he will be seeing a lot of top-pair defensemen. If he repeats his numbers from last year, it will be a step forward. If he exceeds them, look out.

I have no doubt that he will. Barring serious injury, he is the guy who excells while making others better. How I wish I lived in Denver.
