Hendricks and Avs Miles Apart and a bit of Kovy too.
According to Dater, Matt Hendricks is moving on - a source close to the player says that the Avs and Hendricks have a huge gap in expectations/money and the Avs are most likely not going to re-sign him.
In other news, Peter Mueller has apparently made a full recovery from his season-ending concussion courtesy of Sir Robert of Blake (ret'd).
http://blogs.denverpost.com/avs/2010/06/15/mueller-in-full-recovery-mode/
Which is really good news as I was quite worried about the poor chap. I loved what he did in his 15 game stint with the Avs and he made the PP 68.5%* better than it was.
Ilya Kovulchuk has spurned the LA Kings and apparently has an offer from NY Islanders for a $100 million, ten year deal.
For Roy's sake! I would like Kovy's goals as much as the next man (as long as BiB is that next man) but is he really saying that he is worth more than that?
The more I hear about this, the less I want him. Atlanta and NYI have offered him similar deals and he is thinking about it?
Here's my issue: Russians around the league (Ovechkin excepted) are already treated with suspicion about their mercenary ways, with holdouts (Filitov) and go-homes blotting their copybooks. It has already caused players to drop in the draft because of it. (Kiril somebody). It will get to a point where teams won't bother drafting Russian players because they know that if a KHL team offers them $5.00 more, they will desert.
I don't want Kovy in an Avs unipron, because he is a greedy, mercenary bastard who would likely sell his own mother. The Avs have not always signed the classiest of players (Brad May, Darcy Tucker, Claude Lemieux) but they have kept their ratio pretty high.
New York should tell Kovy to go fuck himself and let his price deteriorate. If he doesn't like it, he can play in the KHL. He seemed very ordinary with the Devils and there is no guarantee that he wouldn't be the same with another team.

The news is a little old. Re-signing Hendricks is still possible, he just thinks he can get more money on the open market. Mueller’s recovery is great, but 2 concussions in the past 3 years scares me. Should be a put up or shut up year for the Mulester. As for Kovie, I’d still take him for 8 million a year (6-7 years). Very true about us signing the occasional douche-bag.
Good... bad... I'm the guy with the gun.
Screw the Wings.
What could Hendricks possibly want?
He’s a fourth liner. I don’t think he could possibly get more than $1.1 on the open market. Even $1.1 might seem extreme to some.
Is it a year thing? Would he want something over five years? Or only a one year?
Are they throwing weird expectations in? Like he has to score at least 10 goals, 25 points, and get 150 hits or something?
Maybe it’s a one-way/two-way thing. (twss. HA!)
I’m confused.
I know my name is spelled "Luxury Yacht" but it's actually pronounced Throatwarbler Mangrove.
As a member in good standing with the PFJ I truly hate only two things:
The JPF and the Detroit Red Wings! And Red Wing fans. Ok, I truly hate three things...
It really seems like Shero’s already filled the hole that Hendricks left with Winnnik and is going to be content to see what guys like Stoa, Porter, and maybe Dupuis look like on the roster.

Sorry about the old news
I only saw it this morning, but didn’t see it on MHH….:)
Thing is, if $10 mil per year isn’t enough for Kovy, the Avs have no chance with him at $8 mil, which is what I think he is worth.
I just have an issue with Russians and a (rightly or wrongly) perceived arrogance
My opinion is worth about what you paid for it: Nothing.
What about Gagne?
According to TSN, Gagne has waived his NTC.
http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=326408
Would he be a good fit for the Avs, a LW who scored 40 points in 58 games? Cap hit would be around $5.5 mil – not too shabby for a team struggling to hit the cap floor.
My opinion is worth about what you paid for it: Nothing.
I saw that as well, I just don’t know anything about Gagne. Is he any good?
Good... bad... I'm the guy with the gun.
Screw the Wings.
Getting older and tends towards injury. I’d rather have Jeff Carter from the Flyers if he becomes available- younger, bigger, 30 – 40 goal scorer.

I would have rather had Tanguay back.
True, Tanguay’s recent seasons have been a bear. But he has been the healthy of the two and more productive overall of the two. He would’ve also come cheaper. He signed a one year free agent deal worth $1.7 million while Gagne is in the final year of a deal that’s paying him $5.25…and the Avs would have to trade away some combination of picks/prospects/roster players to get him.
Gagne and Tanguay broke into the league at the same time. Both are French Canadian junior centers turned wings and are very similar in height and weight. Tanguay’s played almost 100 more games and has a higher points per game average. Although Gagne goes harder to the net and is more of a goal scorer. He twice broke the 40 goal plateau (not coincidentally at a time when he was on Forsberg’s wing). And Gagne for whatever reason has been considered the “better” player, playing for Canada’s 2002 and 2006 Olympic teams while Tanguay never got a sniff.

I still say...
the Avs will get something done in the next couple weeks even though I have a feeling it may be a trade of one of our Defenceman and not a signing

Yip’s contract probably doesn’t bode well for any agreement with Hendricks. I can’t see Hendricks making more than Yip.
