Mr. Shot Blocker signed by Lightning to a two-year contract worth $3.2 million. Good for him! Editor's Note: And good for us!

And mouth guards all over Denver rejoice.

So...
Who’s going to be the whipping boy next season?
I know my name is spelled "Luxury Yacht" but it's actually pronounced Throatwarbler Mangrove.
As a member in good standing with the PFJ I truly hate only two things:
The JPF and the Detroit Red Wings! And Red Wing fans. Ok, I truly hate three things...
Two Horse Race
Either:
Sherman who seems to have developed an allergy towards signing FAgents, or
One of the RFA who will cash in this year, but who will underpreform next year.
My money: Sherman
Could be Kroenke. Whichever one ends up owning his Denver empire.

McLeod, be honest for the last week you forgot he was on the team.

I am not sure quite where all the Clark hate came from in the first place. He was league leader in blocked shots and his horrible contract wasn’t his fault. If someone offers you tons of money, no one on this board would say: “actually, I don’t need that much money. Halve it and I’ll be happy.”
On the other hand, yes, he went AWOL many times and yes, I’ve just looked up his stats on nhl.com and erm….well…..he was good in 2006!
My opinion is worth about what you paid for it: Nothing.
I certainly appreciate the take one for the team mentality that comes with shot blocking, and Clark had quite the pain threshold to do that night after night. Clark’s way of blocking though too often involved flopping to the ground and putting himself out of the play depending on how the puck rebounded.
I think by the end of his stay here, a number of players had figured out that they could fake a shot in Clark’s direction, get him flopping to the ground, then skate right around him.
Otherwise, I’d say Clark is pretty solid as a 3rd pairing, maybe even a 2nd in the east. The SE division especially should be a perfect fit for him.

It wasn’t even that. Clark certainly had the great ability to block shots…but as stated above, he gave in quick on a fake. He also had this knack to block shots as a re-direct for the other team.
And his turnovers during important parts of games are legendary (in the Patrice Briesbois type of way).
I will always remember the season before last, when McNabb and Haynes were orgasming over Clark blocking 4 shots on an open net towards the end of the game. What they kept failing to mention was that he had to block those 4 shots because he kept turning over the puck.
Help help! I'm being repressed!
the real fake from Clark was in his scoring. He scored 36 and 39 points in his 2 years before signing that deal. His best since then is 21. He’s not the greatest defenseman in the world, but if he was approaching 40 points every season he’d be well worth the $3.5 million.

Bingo. His play declined after the contract. Pure and simple.

I always thought he was so slow that he had no choice but to throw himself in front of the puck since he couldn’t play the man.

This is similar to my thinking. I figured that he always blocked shots because he was incapable of playing other forms of defense. Shot blocking is what you do when the plan fails, you should go out and try to do it unless you have no other choice.
Thanks Joe...
Clark suffered from Skrastins disease, an obession with his shot blocking.
Clark gave up the blue line ever rush. Clark had some pretty poor clearing attempts when he faced his own boards.
He’s a good skater, better than average puck possession guy coming up the ice. I don’t know if he was every screamed at for giving too big a gap in his own zone but if he had ever just figured out that part I thought he could have been a solid second pairing. Hard to believe he and Skrastins were the top pairing for the Avs not too long ago.

Hannan and Quincey aren’t exactly a huge upgrade.

Good deal for Tampa
I’ve never been a big Clark fan, but what always killed me was that contract. This is a fair contract for Clark. I’m happy for him, and Tampa.
BTW, Tampa is going to be a fun team to watch next season. They have made some very shrewd moves (picking up Ellis, Clark and Kubina for reasonable contracts). They still need quite a few forwards though. They could be a fun team to follow next season.

Well
It all depends on what they do for forwards. They have a lot to sing so it could still go either way.
I like what they have done with their defense. Probably the soberest person at a Phish concert best defense in the SE

And they say that too.....
Decent on paper….. and then they lose 15 of their next 20, after losing 10 of their next 12.
And then TSN goes nuts with the Vinny to Montreal trade rumors.
they do that every year right?

Trey Anastasio of Phish is a Flyers fan...
But he’s a hockey fan at heart. He gave a shout-out to the Blackhawks when they opened Phish tour in Chicago the day they had the parade, then offered some voodoo shit about the Flyers winning next year at their Camden NJ show this summer. I saw him outside of the Chop House as Sean Podein walked in wearing his uniform after the 2001 Cup.
Not sure what kind of D-Man a Phish fan would make, but Aaron Miller was once one of ‘em, for what it’s worth. GO CATS GO!

Has anyone figured out
whether it is $3.2M total for two years or $3.2M per? $3.2M per would be crazy.
Your 2010-2011 Colorado Avalanche: Reaching Up to the Cap Floor
TSN says 3.2 total for 2 years or 1.6 / year.
Cap Geek says 1.5 / year.

If Clarky can recapture that 2006 magic (playoff heroics vs Dallas included), than that is a bargain. But being the betting man I am, I’d wager against it. I’m not saying it’s impossible that Clark regains form, but it’s probably safer to bet on BP fixing that little leak of theirs….
by Brett Shumway on Jul 6, 2010 11:12 AM MDT up reply actions
Even if he doesn’t regain 2006 form, I’d say his play is worthy of 1.6 mil, and he’d still be alright as a 4th, 5th or 6th.
I would take him at that price.
well, I’d take pretty much any defenseman at that price right now.

Some Tampa website said $1.7 for the 1st year, $1.3 for the 2nd. Definitely good business for Tampa Bay.

Now we can retire the “Mouthpiece” nickname that nobody but me used.
If we don't get our sauce, we ain't watching the game!
Good for the 'Bolts' (blech, what a horrible team nickname...)
I think Clark was an alright d-man. Yeah, maybe he wasn’t worth Jeff FInger money, but at least he was willing to sacrifice the body during those early November games. Good guy in the community too – helped coach my buddy’s kid’s team when he could (his kid was on it too, as well as the Hejduk twins for a time.) Good luck to him and TB. Forget Vinny, I always wished we could pull Martin St. Louis out of there, but he’s locked in for good now it seems.
And good for me, I made it to the front page at last! Take that twitter!
