Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Today in Colorado Avalanche History

Happy 26th birthday to Avalanche forward David Jones. The former Dartmouth player was on his way to a career year last year before a freak injury knocked him out for the season. Although he played in just 23 games, he set career highs in goals, assists, points and even +/-. Surely you'll read more about it in the next issue of the Official David Jones Fan Club Newsletter.

Or his next major injury, whichever comes first

Is there any doubt which will come first?

You two are officially listed under Dr. Jones’ “hater” category…

Heck No

I’m part of the fan club! But most players will have a semi-long term injury in four seasons.

Not a hater, I’m a realist. He is the next Marek Svatos…every time he seems to get going, he gets injured

Hey, I pray every day that this team can achieve some sort of health…but it seems that every year they get on a small role and someone key goes down.

Oh, I agree re: the teams injury problems. Mostly I just like the term “little ball of hate” and try to use it whenever possible. That being said, Dr. Jones does not quiet yet deserve the “next Svats” dubbing.

Nah, it’ll be done just in time for the dear Dr. to get injured, at which point UZ will put it on the shelf so he doesn’t go suicidal.

Realist

The simple definition of a realist is someone who has a narrow, unsupported point of view who rejects the opinions of others regarding subject being discussed. Jones gets semi hit from behind two years ago and suffers a back injury. Last season an opposing player falls on the side of his leg and tears ligaments. Conclusion by a realist = see definition above. ROFLMAO!

by LTC Pain on Aug 10, 2010 9:02 AM MDT reply actions

That doesn’t change the fact that he’s been injured 2 years straight, just as he was getting his stride.

Svatos had some freak injuries too, but again…you could count on him getting injured. Hell, even Tanguay seemed to come up with a slight injury (usually knee) that would pull him from the line-up during the heart of a playoff race (no matter which team he is on).

It started as a joke, but still…if it happens to Jones again this year, freak injury or not, it will be 3 years and 3 major injuries. Again, hoping for the best…AKA, injury free

Being injury prone and being unlucky mean the same thing in this context: Missed games.

"Half the game is mental; the other half is being mental." -- Jim McKenny

by Dixomatic on Aug 10, 2010 9:37 AM MDT up reply actions

Yes, hoping for the best. But Jones is not Forsberg with perpetual foot problems or Lindros with constant history of concussions. These are examples of being injury prone because something in there health could not take the rigors of the game. Like Dixomatic says, Jones has just been unlucky. Jones has the ability to put up 40 goals this year, barring a freak injury like the last two years.

by LTC Pain on Aug 10, 2010 9:50 AM MDT up reply actions

Yes he does, the guy’s raw talent is unbelievable. The first year he was up, the knock was he couldn’t finish. Last year he proved he could, then oops…

by chiavsfan on Aug 10, 2010 9:59 AM MDT up reply actions

I hope his speed wasn’t effected by his latest injury. Having a full year of Jones, Duchene and Mueller should lead to some very fast, open ice hockey.

I broke my leg playing hockey so Jones doesn’t have to. I have his injury covered for this year.
