TV Schedule Discrepancy...

I was just flipping through the headlines on the Avs website and I saw that Altitude and Altitude 2 are broadcasting 76 games this year. Great, I thought, they're actually going to butt out and let us see the Versus coverage a few times. Then I realized that Versus is only broadcasting 5 Avs games. And math isn't my strong suit, but I'm pretty sure that only comes out to 81 games. Now, I hope to hell they meant 77 instead of 76 games on Altitude, but I don't have time to check right now... maybe later.

Yes, this seems to be as close to a nailbiter as Avs news has come in months.

there is one game that will only be available from the Panthers feed if you have CenterIce. I think.

Don’t get me started!

Btw, the Wild show some preseason games. Oh, and the Dallas frickin Stars show preseason games. Neither of these are owned by the team.

I know ;( and we’re seriously not better than the Wild? We’ll be driving to Lake Havasu on the 22nd. Would enice if I could at least hear the game on my fancy Sirius radio.

Blackhawks show certain pre-season games as well. They even did that under Dollar Bill

it’s really sad. so much lost potential to see the prospects play.

by thedoctor on Sep 1, 2010 10:52 AM MDT up reply actions

I, for one, have never, ever been bothered by this approach to “building from within”.

Let’s take a look at the fine offerings that Los Altiboobies will be prioritizing over pre-season games, shall we?

9/21/10 Avs vs. Blues 6PM Mountain – ALT shows: 5:30 PM Altitude Sports Summit: Pro Football Edition and 6:30 PM In the Shadow of War – Southern Iraq Journalist Conference \ Southern Iraq Journalist Conference

9/22/10 Avs vs. Kings 7PM Mountain – ALT shows: 7:00 PM Altitude Classics: College Football – 2004 Colorado at Nebraska

9/24/10 Avs vs. Stars 6.30PM Mountain – ALT shows: 6:30 PM Football Colorado and 7:00 PM High School Football Game of the Week – Cherry Creek vs. Mullen

9/26/10 Avs vs. Blues 7PM Mountain – ALT shows: 6:00 PM Fight Sports: World Class Championship Boxing – Evander Holyfield vs. Sultan Ibragimov and 8:00 PM On Stage – Roger Clyne & The Peacemakers (Rock)

9/28/10 Avs vs. Stars 7PM Mountain – ALT shows: 7:00 PM College Football’s Great Coaches – Urban Meyer, Florida Head Coach and 7:30 PM RMAC Showcase – Fall Sports Highlights and 8:00 PM Golf at Altitude – Bear Dance and 8:30 PM Golf at Altitude – Saddleback

9/30/10 Avs vs. Stars 6.30PM Mountain – ALT shows: 6:30 PM Altitude Sports Summit: College Football Edition and 7:00 PM Golf at Altitude – Green Valley Ranch and 7:30 PM Golf at Altitude – Breckenridge and 8:00 PM Altitude Sports Summit: Pro Football Edition

10/2/10 Avs vs. Kings (Frozen Fury) 7PM – ALT shows: 7:00 PM Instant Replay – BYU at Utah State

Dear Enos & Enos Part Deux – Ever wonder why your team can’t seem to garner any media attention? Maybe because the media outlet(s) that you own can’t be bothered to cover your own damned team? Nah! That’s not it! Must be because the fans suck and won’t buy out the Pepsi Center at hugely inflated ticket prices! Yeah, that’s it!

they talk about the expense of broadcasting the preseason when few people will watch, which is honestly fairly valid if they were doing a full broadcast.

but i don’t think they need to go for a full broadcast either — simulcast the radio broadcast, which they’re already doing afaik, and just put a camera on. you can’t tell me you wouldn’t pull more advertising revenue for that than those shows you listed, with virtually zero additional operating cost. this is exactly how you leverage your own channel into additional revenue…but the Avs just don’t seem interested.

by thedoctor on Sep 1, 2010 1:28 PM MDT up reply actions

Agreed. Broadcasting is very pricey.

by BraxtanFILM on Sep 1, 2010 2:51 PM MDT up reply actions

Well, if the approach is to completely cheap out build from within at the tv network as well, why not go for the gusto and just run infomercials 24/7? That’s especially cheap (and lucrative) I’d think!

Hey, Tucker might actually bring some value to the organ-I-zation after all! “Introducing Shamwow!….”

But really

can’t they at least broadcast Frozen Fury? I mean, be honest, 9 out of 10 of us here want to go to that game some time but probably never will.

The question is also, what are the broadcasting capabilities of the facility?

Most of the NHL arenas have their own equipment, or at least cameras and cabling in place. Broadcasting is actually done through a truck parked in the lot of the building. These trucks (and crew) are extremely expensive per event. Typically when you have a main event or regular season game, you have multiple networks carrying the feed, and thus splitting the cost of the truck and other broadcasting costs.

It just doesn’t make sense for pre season NHL games, unless all the teams start doing it. Nobody is gonna pony up that kind of cash by themselves.

yeah, i think broadcasting only home preseason games might be a bit more realistic

The frozen fury being at the MGM Grand should have broadcasting capabilities. That is where they frequently have boxing or MMA pay-per-view broadcasts. I think Ceasars Palace is the only other place that hosts those events.

UFC’s pretty big on the MGM grand, I think they’ve held a few Ultimate Fighter finales their, and it’s one of the few arenas in the UFC game.

No. I went to Mullen. Not that I really give a shit about football, but yeah, anyone against creek. Interesting (maybe) side story, as a sophomore Mullen ditched our Hockey team so I entered the at large pool and played HS hockey for Creek. Which sucked, except then I got to play lacrosse for Mullen and beat the crap out of the hockey players, because we all played both sports.

Thanks mostly to my folks. When I played the Denver area had about 5 rinks with 9 sheets of ice. But yeah, I’m pretty grateful I had the chance to learn.

That one broadcast may mean the difference between trading Melo for horseshit, or trading Melo for bullshit. Money’s tight these days.

There's a place out west where the Powder River rolls off the Bighorn Mountains. It's a land of red walls, blue sky, and clean air, where the eagle glides high above the canyons and makes its nest in the rocks that overlook the valleys where the sagebrush and cottonwoods grow. This is ranch country - has been for more than a hundred years.

Well things have changed some since the early days, but there's still a thread of character and tradition that runs true from one generation to the next. You can see it in the way folks out here set a horse; you can hear it in the way they talk. And when the work's all done, there's nothing they like better than to get together at the one room schoolhouse under the red wall for another down home, homegrown, Western Saturday night.
