Weird. Is he old enough to be a Wing?

He’s 35 so he’s just old enough to start playing for them.

Watch.....

he’ll play all 82 games and score a hat trick each time he plays us.

Who is this Salei person and why do we care if he’s a Red Wing now? Didn’t he used to play for the Panthers? Come to think of it, I have not heard anything on him for the last few years now. WEIRD

I’m sad. I don’t like anything Avs going to the Wheel. (I just hope he continues to suck…that will make me feel a little better.)

So the summer of broken down, and old continues for the Red Wings huh? Maybe they can pull Hasek from the KHL, it would be perfect for them. He can back up the LORD

Help help! I'm being repressed!

How dare you!

Forget HoF lock Chris Osgood, who plans to spend yet another year on the bench polishing his HoF induction plaque.

Colorado Avalanche Offseason Strategy - Please wake us in October

by Hopfenkopf on Aug 9, 2010 1:33 PM MDT reply actions

Wow

Look at our roster. This team looks absolutely beastly.

Per a misdirected fellow/gal at Winging it in Motown. Did he/she see Rusty play last year? “Beastly” would not be the word that comes to my mind. I love the guy, but…

A couple of folks on there have been paying attention, tho, like this guy…

He’s got a wonky back…He’s a playoff body, not a regular season workhorse

I just like the fights.

by Cheryl Bradley on Aug 9, 2010 1:57 PM MDT reply actions

Don’t remember him being that useful in the playoffs either. In fact, the only game he played, he sucked tremendously.

I spent more effort eating a pudding than Tyler Arnason skated last year.

so, Salei could keep his #24 – a number previously worn by Chris Chelios.

the number should be available – it was worn last year by Brad May

Still wondering if Chris Stewart will switch to 24 when he finally signs.

I just love how the tools over at EZ are trying to work in insults to the Avs and their fans.

I also love how they are desperately trying to find something good to say about the signing of Salei. Even going so far as to bring up his stats from his Anaheim years.

It must be fun to be an absolutely delusional Wings fan with no grip on reality.

When I think of Salei, I think “puck possession”. Good job Wings.

by Dario on Aug 9, 2010 4:27 PM MDT reply actions

Odd, when I think of him, I think “bad turnovers all over the ice while attempting puck possession because his hip replacement keeps going out of line”.

We, as Avs fans, can legitimately say that we have seen his badass side. When he first came over he was pretty damn solid. I would love to have THAT Rusty around any day. But something tells me ‘that guy’ won’t show up to the Joe this upcoming year.

Thanks Joe...

Remember the first game, a guy on the Avs got hit and Rusty went and fought the dude.

Yeah. I thought we had found a gem. Skrastins for Salei seemed like the best deal of that deadline.

by mfured20 on Aug 9, 2010 5:16 PM MDT up reply actions

it was Steve Ott, IIRC. or some other Dallas douchebag.

Salei was awesome after the trade. well, for the rest of the season. the next year he was very inconsistent, and last year he was terrible.

I was so excited about him at the end of that year. But that was SO long ago. He’s been a shadow of that person for so long, you can’t even begin to associate that word with him anymore.

I just like the fights.

by Cheryl Bradley on Aug 9, 2010 5:32 PM MDT up reply actions

I know, I was too. I remember watching that game and knowing very little about him at that point. I remember thinking that this guy was going to rock my socks off. Sure, he did… made me throw the socks at the TV in frustration.

The aves paid salei over 3mil. The wings signed him for .75mil. You have to admit they do a good job getting revived play out of veterans. If he’s healthy, isn’t it reasonable to believe he will be very effective playing limited minutes against opposing teams 3rd. and 4th lines?

by Hocytwnnrth on Aug 9, 2010 9:00 PM MDT reply actions

Well, I really don’t have to admit that. case in point- Bertuzzi. I would argue that the overall quality of the team hides poor performance by some of the older guys, or just detracts attention from them as they are in lesser roles. If by revived play you mean “former stud does ok in 3rd/4th line role” then yeah, but I think most teams could do that.

However, if they can get him to be “revived”, by which I mean a return to his post trade form in Colorado, yes, I believe he could be effective in that role. His declining performance in Colorado would argue against that, and back injuries are notoriously difficult to recover from; betting on him playing at his previous level is a gamble to put it mildly. I’ll put my money on him disappointing Wings fans, who will no doubt fail epically in their attempts to blame his performance on his prior tenure in Colorado and not some foolishness by the Wings GM/ the fact that he hasn’t been very good lately for whatever reason

Why would anyone talk about him as a “great” signing if he was only signed to play 10 minutes a game against other teams 4th lines?!

So the vaunted, never-wrong, always well-managed, full-of-prospects signed ANOTHER veteran to take more money than a replacement level player from their system?

Feels good.
