I bet my shopping trip today was weirder than yours

Raycroftbiggerpads_medium

You know how sometimes you go shopping for memorabilia at a team store, and you're hoping to come across a cheap hat or jersey or something like that? That's what I went out for today. Instead I came across this. Ten points if you can recognize them right away.

The trapper was a little stiff from lack of proper use. Still, absolutely the coolest find I've ever come across at a team store.

Raycroft!! Was that at the Canucks Outlet store?

Is it October yet?!

Yep. $250 each for the trapper and blocker. Pads didn't have a price tag that I could see.

Everyone was incorrectly labeling them as Luongo’s old pads. They weren’t.

While they may be the same ‘style’ I don’t see how those can be mislabled as Luongo’s, the colours alone should have given people a clue.

Luongo from the first season with the Canucks

Back when burgundy was one of their colours. Raycroft’s pads are much smaller than Luongo’s, though.

Also, Raycroft’s name is on the price tag and also stitched on the pads.

Nice.

If they aren’t bought yet, we should have an MHH pool to try and get up the money to buy them. We can call it the “Forgotten Avs Memorabilia Fund.”

But seriously, I think Raycroft had the best color scheme of any Avs goalie on his pads. IMO, they came as close as humanly possible to making the unipron look good. They’d be perfect now with the blue thirds.

AND really, how could any true Canucks fan mistake those for Luongo’s pads? It’s the wrong shade of burgundy and the wrong shade of blue. Also, the stripes are out of order and Luongo’s pads didn’t even have any white, only silver. On top of that, these pads are pretty clearly a different model year than Luongo’s pads from that year. Take a look:

If you swapped the burgundy with the blue they’d look better IMO.

This is one thing that NHL 10 is good for. I tried it out and while the pads looked good in isolation (IE, when my goalie was wearing a white jersey), they looked like a wall of burgundy when the goalie was wearing his home unipron. Kind of hurt my eyes.

I could understand that, thats why I never liked alot of the designs on pads, way too much of one colour. And plain white pads are completely wrong. I hate every goalie who does that. The old RX9 design was awesome though, notg too much of one colour. The fact I have RX9 pads may have some influence on that though

My pads are solid black with silver highlights. I like to rock the black jersey and pants too. Looks menacing.

Yeah I’m not a fan, I rock the white and black with silver outline RX9’s and I look more menacing, especially when combined with an Avs practice jersey and spiderman mask. Everyone fears my menacingness(yeah, it’s a word) looks, especially the throwing stick part. Can you believe it’s a 10 minute misconduct for gracefully placing a stick next to the boards while standing in the crease.

No kidding, I was gonna mention that. Raycroft’s padsa are RBK P3s which are fairly newish whereas Luongos pads in that picture look like old P2s maybe. Nothing like Raycrofts,

I know, I just wanted to bust out some knowledge on pads, which is probably wrong because I did it off the top of my head. That’s how I roll

Andrew Raycrofts pads. Glove looks brand new, are you sure it’s game worn gear.

In related news I was tempted to buy a pro return pair of Budaj’s x:60s of ebay.

Yeah, I'm sure

It’s more scuffed up than that photo looks. My cellphone camera isn’t exactly the best on the planet. But it’s used. I tried it on, and although it felt stiff, part of the reason I had a hard time using it is that I have smallish hands.

The store had a section for used gear, including gloves, sticks, and even a set of shoulder pads (!!!).

Vancouver Canucks Outlet Store

I was at Canucks training camp last year, and he wore those pads for the first day before switching to his Vancouver ones. That’s why they ended up in a Vancouver store.

I think you need to turn your sarcasm meter up, There was a long running joke here when he was an Av, besides him being an stoner and an Av, that he never used his glove and that every puck went straight through it.
I’d say being a pro spec glove the palm would be stiffer than standard, off the shelf gloves as well. since it’d take a beating during the season.

Was there a hole in the glove?

Thanks Joe...

Not so much a hole as it just didn't open well

Course, I have small hands. That could’ve been a problem. It was definitely used, though.
