T'was the Night Before Hockey

T'was the Night Before Hockey

(a parody of "T'was the Night Before Christmas")

T’was the night before hockey, and through The CAN
Not a creature was stirring, not even a drunk fan.
The skates and sticks were hung in lockers with care,
In hopes that hockey season would soon be there…

The fans were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of highlight goals danced in their heads.
With fans in burgundy sweaters, and I in my Avs cap
Most Avs fans settled down for the last preseason nap.

When out on the ice arouse such a clatter,
I sprang from the concourse to see what was the matter.
Away to the rink, I flew like a flash,
I found a seat without a bumble or a crash.

The spotlight centered on the ice below,
Every corner of the rink is illuminated as the tension grows.
When, what to my wondering eyes, what should appear,
But a full roster of Avalanche players, including Jean-Sebastien Giguere.

With a veteran superstar we know as the "Duke,"
I knew in a moment it was Milan Hejduk!
More rabid than wolves, the Avalanche, it came,
With Coach Joe Sacco calling them all by name.

"Come on McLoed, Stastny, and Matt Hunwick!
Skate hard Duchene, Jones, and Daniel Winnik!
From behind the crease to in front of the slot!
We’ll fight early and often… and even in the parking lot!!!"

The shots hit the net like a Mike Tyson punch,
The defensemen warmed up to give Detroit a good crunch.
All the skaters flew around the ice, like a hurricane,
Our thoughts and prayers with the Lokomotiv players who died on the plane.

With improved goaltending and a bigger D-core,
A healthy Peter Mueller will gives us a better chance to score.
Lonely atop the building wave the Stanley Cup banners,
Will this be a season we add to the rafters?

The addition of Varlamov and Landeskog give us a reason to believe,
A winning season will be a big relief.

With Varly in his helmet and Eric Johnson in his gear,
The entire NHL has something to fear.

Happy Hockey to all, and to all a good season!
