Doughty and Johnson
Doughty is considered to be a franchise defensemen, as is Johnson. My point is, do you guys think that the contract that Doughty ended up receiving will raise the bar for Johnson's next contract?
Both Drew Doughty and Shea Weber have cap hits over seven million a year. Both are better players than Johnson, but the potential is there. The arbitrator in the Weber case raised the bar on a one year contract but the Doughty deal brings about a change in long term cap hits. His average salary of seven million per year ups the ante from the deal that Tyler Myers received of 5.5 million per year.
Erik Johnson - Current deal - 1 year 2.6 million

Drew Doughty - Current deal - 8 years 7 million cap hit

Shea Weber - Current deal - 1 year 7.5 million cap hit

Tyler Myers - Current deal - 7 years 5.5 million cap hit

What deal do you guys think is the closest to what Johnson will look for?

Hopefully closer to the 5.5 range, I am not sure he is going to break out this year but I think he will make some huge strides in his game. Witch may save our bacon and allow us to lock him up for a few years a little cheaper. I think we can all see he has the tools but you can really see him still figuring his game out a little. He is a year behind in his development because of injuries, with this years experience I can see him actually breaking out next year. Hopefully at that point we already have him locked up for 4 or 5 years at anywhere between 4.5 and 6 a year depending on how much he develops this year.
I see a 3-5 year, at 5-6 mil a year. But what the hell do I know

Also hopping no one mentions NORRIS and Johnson at the same time this year that’s when he will become expensive as hell. Things like this are why its a good thing that Colorado is flying under the radar this year.
I don’t think EJ is in that category yet. As you said the potential is there but those are the ovechkin and Crosby of younger defensemen.

Goddamn, just on those lines looks like someone got themselves a steal on some myers. But I think if Johnson has a good season this year he’s gonna get 6+

I don't understand the purpose of the line, "I don't need to drink
to have fun." Great, no one does. But why start a fire with flint and
sticks when they've invented the lighter?
Weber got his award in arbitration, so he doesn’t compare exactly. Mike Green signed for $5.25 per year, 4 years, after his “breakout” year (18 or 19 goals, 56 points), when he was 22, and factor in salary inflation and you may be looking at $5.5 million per in RFA years, over $6 million in UFA (though a new CBA may change things). This looks like a decent list and it’s a pricey one.
