Colorado Avalanche reduce roster to 26.

The Avalanche have just announced that they have reduced their roster to 26, with three players assigned to the Injury Reserve. That brings them to the required 23 player active roster required by the league.

They reassigned Stefan Elliott to Lake Erie (AHL). They place Kyle Cumiskey (groin), Mark Olver (head) and Brandon Yip (arm) on the IR.

This leaves Gabriel Landeskog with the Big Club. Going into the season this is what the team will look like:

Forwards:

Matt Duchene

TJ Galiardi

Milan Hejduk

David Jones

Chuck Kobasew

Gabriel Landeskog

Joakim Lindstrom

Cody McLeod

Peter Mueller

Ryan O`Reilly

Mark Olver (IR)

Kevin Porter

Paul Stastny

Daniel Winnik

Brandon Yip (IR)

Defenseman:

Kyle Cumiskey (IR)

Jan Hejda

Matt Hunwick

Erik Johnson

Shane O`Brien

Ryan O`Byrne

Kyle Quincey

Ryan Wilson

Goalies:

Jean-Sebastien Giguere

Semyon Varlamov

What do you think of the team? Any surprises? What do you think the lines will be opening night!?

Roster

I’m bummed out the Elliot has to go down, but I guess it’s better for us in the long run if he’s down playing top line minutes in LE rather than rotating through that 6-7-8 spot with the big club.

Here’s what I think the lines will be for opening night.

Mueller-Duchene-Hejduk
Kobasew-Stastny-Jones
Landeskog-O’Reilly-Winnik
Galiardi-McClement-Lindstrom

EJ-Hejda
O’Byrne-Quincy
Wilson-O’Brien

Scratches: Hunwick ( worry that he’ll be in the lineup over Wilson), McLeod, Porter

by Chris Leiter on Oct 5, 2011 11:09 AM MDT reply actions

Windstorm is not a 4th line player. 2nd or press box.

This SubaSew on the 2nd line is crap. Gali, Lindy, or Landy will take that spot.

A man who stole my whisky used the defense that no one could resist a bottle of Scotch. I had no choice but to testify on his behalf.

I agree. I hope Sacco gives Gali another shot on the top 3 lines because I can’t stand seeing kobasew on the 1st/2nd. And Lindstrom as the extra forward? Thats bullshit. I think the lines will be whats stated on the DP but I want them to be:

Duke-Duchene-Muells
Jones-Stas-Landy/Lindstrom
Gali-Radar-Landy/Lindstrom
Kobasew-Clementine-Winnik

EXTRAS EXTRAS: Porter, McCleod

Oct. 8... is it here yet?

by avsfanatic33 on Oct 5, 2011 1:53 PM MDT up reply actions

I’d like to see Kobasew on the top line since he’s shown some decent talent in the past. And his quotes by Dater about his time in Minnesota are interesting. Makes me think he felt like he was held back or asked to play a role he can’t fulfill. So maybe he’ll ‘break out’ again with us.

I’m not sure about Lindstrom playing a bottom 2 line role though. I thought I remember Sacco implying that Lindstrom plays a top 2 line or nothing role. I guess we’ll see soon.

by sheese on Oct 5, 2011 11:25 AM MDT up reply actions

I’m still trying to figure out what “break out” is for SubaSew. His best season is 21/21/42. I think I am going to like the guy, but as a 3rd liner. 6 whores is right, but I would strike Gali (much as I love him), who I think is 3rd/4th line all the way. Landy or Lindy will keep SubaSew down on the 3rd line at least.

by Andy_Joe on Oct 5, 2011 11:33 AM MDT up reply actions

I want landy on the second line. I also want McLeod in but i doubt that will happen

Mike Chambers’s report from practice today says it looks like McCleod is on the 4th line, Lindstrom and Porter would be the scratches. Of course, that could all change between now and Saturday night.
