Colorado Avalanche reduce roster to 26.
The Avalanche have just announced that they have reduced their roster to 26, with three players assigned to the Injury Reserve. That brings them to the required 23 player active roster required by the league.
They reassigned Stefan Elliott to Lake Erie (AHL). They place Kyle Cumiskey (groin), Mark Olver (head) and Brandon Yip (arm) on the IR.
This leaves Gabriel Landeskog with the Big Club. Going into the season this is what the team will look like:
Forwards:
TJ Galiardi
Gabriel Landeskog
Mark Olver (IR)
Brandon Yip (IR)
Defenseman:
Kyle Cumiskey (IR)
Goalies:
What do you think of the team? Any surprises? What do you think the lines will be opening night!?

Roster
I’m bummed out the Elliot has to go down, but I guess it’s better for us in the long run if he’s down playing top line minutes in LE rather than rotating through that 6-7-8 spot with the big club.
Here’s what I think the lines will be for opening night.
Mueller-Duchene-Hejduk
Kobasew-Stastny-Jones
Landeskog-O’Reilly-Winnik
Galiardi-McClement-Lindstrom
EJ-Hejda
O’Byrne-Quincy
Wilson-O’Brien
Scratches: Hunwick ( worry that he’ll be in the lineup over Wilson), McLeod, Porter
Windstorm is not a 4th line player. 2nd or press box.
This SubaSew on the 2nd line is crap. Gali, Lindy, or Landy will take that spot.
A man who stole my whisky used the defense that no one could resist a bottle of Scotch. I had no choice but to testify on his behalf.

I agree. I hope Sacco gives Gali another shot on the top 3 lines because I can’t stand seeing kobasew on the 1st/2nd. And Lindstrom as the extra forward? Thats bullshit. I think the lines will be whats stated on the DP but I want them to be:
Duke-Duchene-Muells
Jones-Stas-Landy/Lindstrom
Gali-Radar-Landy/Lindstrom
Kobasew-Clementine-Winnik
EXTRAS EXTRAS: Porter, McCleod
Oct. 8... is it here yet?
I’d like to see Kobasew on the top line since he’s shown some decent talent in the past. And his quotes by Dater about his time in Minnesota are interesting. Makes me think he felt like he was held back or asked to play a role he can’t fulfill. So maybe he’ll ‘break out’ again with us.
I’m not sure about Lindstrom playing a bottom 2 line role though. I thought I remember Sacco implying that Lindstrom plays a top 2 line or nothing role. I guess we’ll see soon.
I’m still trying to figure out what “break out” is for SubaSew. His best season is 21/21/42. I think I am going to like the guy, but as a 3rd liner. 6 whores is right, but I would strike Gali (much as I love him), who I think is 3rd/4th line all the way. Landy or Lindy will keep SubaSew down on the 3rd line at least.
I want landy on the second line. I also want McLeod in but i doubt that will happen

Mike Chambers’s report from practice today says it looks like McCleod is on the 4th line, Lindstrom and Porter would be the scratches. Of course, that could all change between now and Saturday night.
The imaginary awesomeness of Lindstrom will be eating nachos? Can we at least make sure he gets the ultimate nachos?

The first serious disagreement – Dater is pretty much trashing the idea of Dutchy as a left winger after Jibs put forward the reasonable idea that Duchene would be this team’s best left winger.

I think Elliot will be back later in the season. Hunwick and Wilson better take their game to another level, because Elliot and Barrie will be pushing them soon enough. Kobasew is a surprise, but if he can play at the level he did before his time with the Wild he could balance that line pretty well. Can’t wait for Saturday! New beginning with a defense and goaltending.

Well
Bummed Elliot didn’t make the roster. Hunwick is garbage and the fact that Elliot didn’t make it and he did is disgusting. I don’t like Kobasew in the top 6, I think Landy should be there. Besides that should be an interesting year for the Avs and it should be interesting to see what we do. I also really want to know who will be wearing the C. My money is on Erik Johnson. I just don’t see Staz as a good Captain. Should be interesting

I would be extremely surprised if Johnson was named captain.
Mile High Hockey: A lot more fun to watch than the Avalanche.
I wouldn’t for one of two reasons:
1. I really think he’s good for it. He showed leadership as soon as he got here, and has been acting like a leader in interviews and such in the off season. Hell, somebody used him in a recent article about playing in a league with all the head shot worries. They could have cited Chara or Pronger or someone with a little more name recognition.
2. The Avs do shit that surprises you all the time, no?
The only thing that never surprises me is who they give letters to during the regular season.

The letters have always been a given to me. This is the first year that I’m thinkin “not so much”. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised to see no “c” for a month or two. I also wouldn’t be surprised to see Hejdek with a “c”. “Take the C, bitch, you owe us (I don’t think he wants it but I think he’d take it)” kind of thing

Sacco interview after practice continued the dodginess…. still have 2 As and will use the 3rd A with some other guys… no time table for a C…. yada yada yada.
He did say something to the effect of “we’ll let it play out over the next little while here”, who knows what that means.
I hate this. HATE. IT. It’s akin to the coach playing head games with his own players, and it makes me a little mad. I’d really rather he let them know what their roles are before starting the season.
Who says that the hasn’t told them? He’s just not tellin us….. who knows what internal discussions they’ve had
If he hasn’t, that’s what my hate is for.
I can’t think of a reason why they would establish the Captain and then not reveal it until, say, opening night. After all, that would almost be good marketing.
Who are the 2 A's?
