Pick the Song that will Annoy Tempestuous Binary for the Entire Avs Season
My girlfriend and I spent a long weekend travelling around the Netherlands, so I missed the last pre-season game. Halfway through the trip, I managed to get on a computer (I don't carry a smartphone and the like) and, of course, the first thing I did was check MHH. I was happy to find that I hadn't really missed anything. Then when I got home, and what the heck! All this new content had sprung up! I missed a lot of stuff in those final days.
Anyway, I've gotten up to speed, now, and for those that don't know, it's time to select the song that will ring through my ears for the next 82 (+?) games.
When Americanario made a Journey reference during a game, I decided to listen to "Don't Stop Believing". Then, right in the middle of the song, Milan Hejduk scored a goal, and a tradition was born. Ever since that game, I would listen to "Don't Stop Believing" before an Avs game. Clearly, this song brings good luck. Despite Brian Elliott's attempts to disprove that.
Some people complained about the Detroit references in the song, however, so I decided to find a different song, one that the power of MHH can bring forth from the cosmic umbra of my massive modest music collection.
The only game that I saw listened to in which the Avs won was the Dallas game, and the playlist on that night was:
-
Mastodon - "Blood and Thunder"
Listen here. This is the fastest song of the lot. If you want something to pumpRobert Luongo's tiresme and the Avs up pick this one.
-
Christophe Héral - "Hyllian Suite"
Listen here. A pregame song doesn't have to be fast and heavy. Maybe you want to channel a sense of ease and tranquility so the Avs can focus easier?
-
Killswitch Engage - "Desperate Times"
Listen here. There is no real connection to the Avs with this song, only that it is the heaviest (at least in terms of guitar tone and volume; Meshuggah and Gojira fans will know what I mean) and has an unassailable groove to it, but it makes me go, "Yeah! Let's do this!" (Eh, and the title may say something.)
-
Intronaut - "Core Relations"
Listen here. Anyone that has paid any amount of attention to my musical ramblings will know that I love this band. That they were part of the playlist that surely, probably, inspired the Avs to beat theAHLDallas Stars only confirms my belief that they have supernatural powers. Are you sure you want to vote for any other song but this one and risk incurring the spasmodic wrath of "Core Relations"? Do so at your peril!
(MHH editors, if you disapprove of me posting YouTube links - although most of the links are official - I will gladly remove them.)
So, vote for which song you want me to play before every game, and the one with the most votes wins! If you also want to take part in this four-game-old ancient tradition, please do so. The more people that do it, the more we can take credit for Avs victories! TCISO! Go Avs!

I love that picture. I had it in mind when I selected that song; it truly evokes how epic the song is.
I admit I’m not a very big KsE fan, but I wanted to stay away from the popular songs on the album to which I mainly listen, which is As Daylight Dies, so it was either this one or the opening song. And that groove in “Desperate Times”, man, it just has it. It may not be their best song, but it makes me want to bite something.

#4 has my vote.
By far the best one for the Avs IMO on the list.
Just a Colorado girl in Montana who <3s the Avs.
And you should have added a “anything but Journey” choice. I mean sure Journey can psyche you up for “ladies choice” at the roller rink, but not hockey.
Yes, but it made the Duke score a goal.

Bad Company by 5 finger death punch. I listen to it in my truck on the way to every hockey game I play. Puts me in the mind to play some salty hockey. Reminds me of the current Avalanche defense core.

I don't like 5 Finger Death Punch. At all. Just not my thing.

So, why not Meshuggah?
Otherwise, Intronaut wins (Blood and Thunder is a great song, but I would get very sick of it over the course of a season and the Killswitch Engage song is not even the best on the album as stated above).
I had a group of songs for every game.
The group in which the Avs won would have its songs put up for the vote. As I missed the last game, this is the only group that ended with a victory.

Also, I'm secretly hoping for the Intronaut song, lol. But the voting is against me. :(

Why don’t you just abandon the premise and use all four songs, or just the top two?
Besides, I wouldn’t think that pre-season lucky music carries over into the regular season. A 9 game try-out may be required.
I think the idea of using the preseason adds a random element to it all, because teams aren't necessarily trying to win.
I’m still working this out, so maybe we’ll see. :D

Last year you were saddled with a crappy ’80s song and look how well the Avs did. You need to keep the streak alive. How about “Riding the Storm Out” by REO Speedwagon? Definitely crappy. Definitely ’80s. It even mentions a “Rocky Mountain winter.”

If it’s gonna be a crappy 80s song, I dedicate Karma Kameleon by Culture Club, because we were all freaking stoked the first half and then the second half. Which for the record was way worse than fat Boy George with the weird paint stripe make up he has been rocking.
Just YouTubed that song. What does it say about me that I like it?

You have to realize that I was the target demographic when that song came out. Every radio station that I was likely to listen to had it on hourly rotation. Every girl I hung out with had it on cassette and wanted to listen to it in my car. It got old. Now it’s not just old. It’s OLD.
It probably means that you won’t be loaning me your iPod.

Ah, that totally makes sense.
I definitely have no intention of listening to the overplayed crap on the radio these days, but someone younger than me may see it differently than me one day.

This is a test...
This is only a test….
"Hey man, don't bogart that puck. Pass it over so I can score."
Looks like it's gonna be Mastodon...
(And taking BT’s suggestion, Intronaut may be the backup in case Mastodon goes into a slump.)
