Getting the shots through
Elliot has really impressed me with many aspects of his game. The aspect that has me overly impressed is with his ability to get a shot through and on net. I think this is such an underrated skill. So I wanted to see how often his shot get through compare to others. Lets take a look.
The numbers will be broke down as Shots on Goal/ Blocked shots/ Missed shots/ total shots attempted/ Percent
Elliot- 23/ 7/ 4/ 34/ 67.6%
Johnson- 57/ 42/ 21/ 120/ 47.5%
Quincy- 75/ 45/ 30/ 150/ 50.0%
O'Brien- 47/ 31/ 13/ 91/ 51.6
Hejda- 38/ 55/ 23/ 116/ 32.8
O' Byrne- 21/ 54/ 11/ 86/ 24.4
Hunwick-2/ 2/ 2/ 6/ .333
Wow it really is not close. So what about some of the former Avs and league leaders from the Blue line.
Shattenkirk- 49/ 37/ 22/ 108/ 45.4
Liles- 63/ 58/ 21/ 142/ 44.4
Lindstrum- 74/ 28/ 34/ 136/ 54.4
Letang- 64/ 35/ 19/ 118/ 54.2
Garrison- 79/ 54/ 30/ 163/ 48.5
Chara- 85/ 32/ 30/ 147/ 57.8
Weber- 97/ 46/ 35/ 178/ 54.5
Byfuglien- 115/ 23/ 47/ 185/ 62.1
Yandle-83/ 36/ 50/ 169/ 49.1
Keith- 71/ 48/ 29/ 148/ 47.9
If Elliot can keep this pace up he is really going to have a great rookie campaign. I think he will and this is why I think he is going to be a great player in this league. Just so you know, he has a higher percent than Duchene and Radar (56.9% and 64% respectively)

His sample size is still quite small compared to the rest of that list. Differences of a factor of 5-7 here in total attempts… I do think more data will continue this trend, according to the eye test, though. I mean how many times have we seen Good Elliott walk around someone set up to block his shot and then wire one on goal, whereas our big slappers are content to punish you for standing there?
At exactly what point do you start to realize that life without knowledge is death in disguise?
You have a better chance to score when the shot doesn’t hit shin pads. But your right, there is a difference. I really think he just has a knack of getting the shots through.

Shot quality is a myth. Given a large enough sample size, some of those shin pad shots will regress to the mean and go in the net.

I don't understand the purpose of the line, "I don't need to drink

sticks when they've invented the lighter?
That is an interesting theory, but I have my doubts about that. I think Quality shots will always have a higher percent then deflections off of pads.

You can doubt all you want, but there are people around that will throw a mind boggling amount of numbers at you that “prove” that over time a shot from your own goal line counts as much as one from 2 feet out against an empty net, and furthermore, that if you score on said empty net, you just got “lucky”.

It is no offense, physics just talks about distance doesn’t coincide with accuracy. The number of unknown variables are going to be greater with more distance.

I’m trying to make jabs at the stats people here. Feel free to play along.
